Bindings got mounted wrong. What to do?

Sooo i gave my mom specific instructions that i told her to write down and take into the shop to get my skis mounted because i was at school and wanted them done when i came home. i had a pair of powder skis and park skis. the park skis were to be mounted at dead center and the powder skis were to be mounted at the suggested mark. and guess what happened??? they got fucked up. my park skis are now mounted several inches behind center, and the powders are center mounted. FUCK ME. thats over $1000 in new equipment that got fucked up. fuuuuuuccckkk. oh, and best part, it now costs $80 to mount skis. i would have fucking done it myself if i knew that. i thought it was like $20? what do i do? they cant stay the way they are. im so fucking pissed!

Im super pissed off with this too. i walked into my local shop and bought new skis and bindings. told them I wanted it DEAD CENTRE. and guess what they do. they set it back 2 inches. WTF I told the guy specifically what I wanted, they wrote it down on the damn page and they still get it wrong! WTH is up.

how hard is it to take a sharpie and mark on your skis where you want them mounted? really? problem solved.

go down to the store and demand that they either buy you new skis or equal value skis and remount them where you wanted. might be a little more difficult since your mom did it for you. lesson learned: do shit yourself.

if u didnt read, i told my mom over the phone my instructions. im only home for the weekend and am bringing my skis back to school, so i needed her to take them in

at least they didnt mount your back binding crooked on both skis so far that the brake will not allow the ski to operate

if you didnt read, you should have had someone mark, with a sharpie, in a nice dark line, where your skis should be mounted. blame your mother not the shop.

i have never had to mark my skis with a sharpie. Dude must have been a dumbass. If i had two brand new pairs of skis to mount, and the paper says something that i think does not make sense. I would be making a call to verify before i drill.

Sorry to hear that man, that really sucks. Go in there and tell them nicely what the problem is, and be very polite. Ask what can they do for you. At my local shop it's $32 for a mount, $80 is crazy! I hope you mean 80 bucks for both.

Yea, this doesn't even happen if he DID bring them in and specified it, unless it was a truly colossal fuck up.

You told your mom what to do. That means there were three (possibly more) layers of communication, and that can easily yield something like this little fuck up. I think I'll reiterate the point made a few times: do it yourself next time, or just deal with it. Just get them remounted.

Yeah, they do?

Cali is right though. ALWAYS sharpie your own line on the skis. Topsheets get epoxied crooked, and shop techs can never be trusted.

$5 dollars says that your mom told them to mount the wrong skis center. Bitch your mom out and not the shop.


Take your skis to the shop and see what they will do. Chances are they will refund the mount, remount for free, and maybe give you some free stuff. Or if you are really lucky they will give you new skis.

You can go to the shop and get them redone. Just make sure the punch in the stud.

Your ski will be weaker but at least it will work

some people just suck, whether its your mom, or the ski techs, either way you may have deserved it.

show them your copy of the binding cert, that should have instructions written on it, and prove them wrong, get it re-done for free. that or it wont be on there and you'll make a fool

i had the same issue, but the dude mounted one ski farther back than the other ahahaha. Now i make it clear how i want them mounted and tell them ill wait in the store until its done, because of this and probably the fact i walk in look like i know what im talking about they just send me back into the shop to look over the whole process to make sure its done correctly.

from now on just ask them if you can watch them mount it for educational/learning experience, i doubt theyd deny you from going in the shop.

They aren't going to give you new skis. Don't get your hopes up... They can remount. plug the 1st set of holes and you'll be good to go. Your shit isn't ruined, don't lose your head. They should remount for free. The tech should have double checked, if your mom said center mount for either ski & was using one boot for both mounts it should have flown up a red flag that it wasn't on the park ski. Good luck.

That sucks, I would try bringing them in and asking if they can remount them. Just try and be nice about it. I always remeasure my skis to make sure they're mounted dead center just in case the top sheet shifted a little when they were pressed. I've already had a pair of skis that were almost a cm off because of this. Then I bring in the skis myself and explain to the guy exactly how I want them mounted. Getting your bindings mounted is one of those things that you really don't want to fuck up.

Mout your skis yourself. Or at least be there when someone else does it. Otherwise it will almost always go wrong.

That sucks that your skis got mounted incorrectly, but I'm not 100% convinced this is this shop's fault. Do you have the paper work that says which skis were to be mounted where? Having worked in a shop, moms quite often confuse which skis are which. It isn't the first time nor will it be the last.

Verbal directions arent good enough, as confusion can easily happen. You should ALWAYS mark on the ski where you want your skis mounted. Lay some tape down and mark exactly where you want the midsole of the boot. You should also mark the tips and tails. You need to do everything you can to avoid any possible confusion. Then if a mistake happens, only the shop can be at fault and will owe you some sort of compensation.

Look at the work order.  Did your mom get confused?
I just had too pairs of skis mounted.  I had very specific instructions.  I told the kid who took them in, watched him write the work order, read it over, and signed off that I told them exactly what I wanted.

Then, when I picked them up, I checked everything over very carefully before I signed off on the work.

It sucks that they're going to have to remount your skis, but most of my skis have at least one set of holes.

When I brought mine in, I told them directly I wanted a dead centre mount. I had them write it down on the slip when they put it on the skis. I just dot understand why they always do this. This is the second time they haven't listen to directions. The crappy thing is is that its the only ski shop around for hours unless I want to take it to Sport Chek. Hell, they might listen to me there.

biggest question is, was there a line drawn on the ski where the boot midsole was to be, and more importantly who drew that line for marking. If your mom had drawn the line, its your own fault.

look at it from the store view. Mom comes in, two pairs or ski and two pairs of bindings. Pays for mounting, draws line for where said skis are to be mounted, shop mounts them where SHE draws the line, and then you rage about the shop... but that's if she drew the line. If someone from the shop had marked the skis then it would be there fault. It's a fine line, but that's were all the liability comes into play.

It's still best to always draw a line on the top sheet where you want them to be mounted. It avoids all confusion, since what do you mean by "dead center"? That may be crystal clear to you, but a shop tech has to decide for you if you meant chord center, contact center, core center, or whether there was "team center" or something to that effect.

Remember, what is obvious to you isn't always obvious to everyone else. It's always best to draw a line and label the tips and tails.
