I really don't see how it would reduce traffic. Most people come from the valley and will still have to drive up a canyon.

Yeahh there was a thread on it awhile back. Its retarded and a pure marketing ploy. Think about it if youre starting from the Can- Cabriolet--> Redpine Gondola--> some other lift--> "SkiLink"--> Soli parking lot--> Moonbeam--> Eagle--> finally time to ski!!..... at noon. Then what, maybe a lap through Honeycomb and time to go back? Ill pass...

rumors that talisker(canyons) may be looking to buy solitude? even if that happens it doesnt really make any sense.  another stupid tourist attracting shenanigan. Utah has done this a lot lately (orange bubble, tunnel at snowbird)

hmm weird, i didn't really give it a good read but i just saw on the canyons facebook saying it was happening.

i know they've been talking about it for awhile but i thought they just decided to make it happen.

pretty sure it's more than an idea at this point...

The tunnel actually makes sense and is an improvement. Being able to ski Mineral without the tram is great.

As for the shit the Canyons has been pulling, not really necessary.

you know whoever you ask is just gonna post it on here - skip the middle man and post it. is the GM is telling you, chances are it's somewhat public knowledge at least through the grapevine of ski area workers.

It's a few years out, but from what I gather it is happening.  But who cares?  It is not going to increase ski traffic in the backcountry and wont have any effect on pow days.  You take 3 or 4 lifts to get on the skilink or whatever, wont get into BCC until 11--any powder a tourist is after is long gone by then. 

If you dont like it, just drive your car down and up.  Its a good marketing ploy to make Canyons look like a premier destination for tourists--you get all the tourist attractions/restaurants/shops/bars of PC, but then have access to the famed Wasatch front powder.  The more I think about it, the better almost.  More tourists come to Canyons/Solitude and I never ski either of em really.

It's a ski resort, all of them are competing to be the best. It's obvious they will try to move forward. There will be no mid stations and no roads so back country access will be no easier

because anyone with half a brain can think up at least 3 ways of doing this that will accomplish the goal much better and benefit more resorts and customers, not to mention backcountry skiers, who obviously do not factor into a resort's plan.

honestly, i don't think there's a better option than maintaining and improving upon the existing guardsmen road. you could then link BCC and LCC with a public ski lift or even a tunnel of some sort and boom, you've got everything connected with almost no further impact anywhere.

tell me who is going to pay for maintaining and improving guardsmans. Who is going to pay for the snow removal of a MOUNTAIN PASS. How much do you think all that would cost every year? The point of this is to connect without having to drive. And a tunnel from BCC to LCC really?

i'm not really supporting the canyons plans for a connecting lift to solitude, i am very indifferent towards it. I'm just calling your guardsmans pass solution idiotic. Do you really want yet another traffic jam prone road into the canyon with even more cars and pollution brought into BCC.

Id rather let Talisker pay to put in their chairlift than have our taxes pay to keep Guardsman's clear of snow, plus its an incredibley fun sled zone.  I don't understand why anyone is really that bent out of shape about this proposition other than for environmental reasons (which I havent heard from this forum yet).  It's simply a marketing ploy to get tourists to come ski Canyons.

I bet 75% of Park City locals choose to drive to BCC instead of taking this chairlift.  How many of you choose to drive up BCC or LCC instead of taking the free bus becuase its more time consuming?  I certainly do.  It won't have very much impact at all I dont think.

If this does happen which is unlikely it will be years out. The train idea is much better than a lift going just to Solitude. Hum Canyons & Solitude I smell Mike Goar.

talisker has mismanaged so much shit already it would be a shame to let them do this and fuck something like the wasatch crest trail up. that's probably the thing that pisses me off most about it.

My buddies dad does development for the canyons when we went skiing yesterday this came up. The lift was confirmed but it will be at least 3 years out with most likely 5-6 years out being when they break ground. If past canyons construction has been an indication it's probably like 7-8 years from completion if at all seeing as I don't think investors are going to want to jump it and support it.

people keep bitching about how its going to ruin the backcountry, but its not like they are building a gondola to the top of 9990' area. its just going up and over. they are not trying to make steep shit accessible to beginners.

I'm for nor against this. Im just gonna sit dormant for a bit, and see how it all pans out.

beezy...I don't care what meeting you were in or if Jack told you personaly what the plans are. At the Can you need to take everything with a grain of sait. Oh and dylhole from my experience over the last five years at The Canyons and Talisker is that they are not as well off as you might think. Yes Jack Bistricer is loaded but the Can and Talisker have had a very hard time paying many bills latily and the real estate biz is floundering. (which is the biz that talisker was and is originaly in. This is 10 years out earlyest. That's if save our canyons cannot get the Upper Big Cottonwoods Wilderness areas passed.

It is more than idea at this point. Talisker is making moves to buy the land from the government. This will happen if Utah is able to take control of publicly held lands as they are trying to do.

seeing this happen makes me sick to my stomach.  Its not going to take any cars off the road because you have to take 5 lifts just to get to the proposed ski link base, which will take about 2 hours at the canyons.  Who is going to ride the ski link when it will get them to Solitude at 11 when you could drive and be there at 9..  It would be practical if the lift went out of the base area and didnt require the purchase of a canyons/ solitude pass.  There are so many better ways to achieve the goal of having less traffic on the roads.  IE Expand the bus schedule, build a rail system, build a lift out of the Downtown Park City that doesn't require riding of additional lifts.  Then there is also the precedent it will set.  Once they build the lift they will then start trying to develop the area with houses etc, even if they don't say this now, this is how these things work.  Not to mention it goes right across the Wasatch Crest trail one of the most high traveled area's by bikers/hikers etc in the Wasatch
