the point being made is that this thread suggests some sort of underlying insecurity. Why do you need to use NS as a fashion consultant? Surely you have your own tastes and ideas about what looks good...why not go with your gut? You don't need reassurance from strangers about your appearance. There's not a freeski uniform. Be yourself, fuck what other people are doing.
The reason someone brought your skiing up is because they assume that if you can't dress yourself, that you'll be doomed to following trends in skiing as well instead of skiing the way you want. Skiing, and the culture/lifestyle are a form of self-expression and a declaration of self...why would you want to mimic someone else? Skiing needs differing approaches, styles, etc. to progress and grow.
