I haven't heard anything about new park location or features. Anyone know anything?

they said they would post on their fb page when they have some new ones, i look at it everyday. and no new features yet. im guessing they wont be making many improvements with the new lift costing so much. classic crystal for you. glad you made this thread btw

yea crystal is getting pretty weak...i was pretty optimistic for the past couple of seasons, but it sounds like they have no plans of upgrading their park at all, since a family-friendly resort is obviously more important....which honestly, i think its family friendly enough. Its just getting really frusterating that crystal seems completely oblivous to the progression of other resorts, such as cannonsburg, that have made a name for themself through upgrading their park, and offering the midwest snowboarding tour etc.

I know this is a completely biased opinion, and families generally generate more revenue, but Crystal has location on their side. As they get kids from Ludington to Traverse city that come to ride cause there is no other decent resorts in the surrounding area. If Crystal had a better park, the word would spread, along with the stoke. And maybe kids wouldnt be skipping out on crystal to go up to Boyne or down to Cburg

This is exactly right. Its like they are completely oblivious to the progression of other resorts as you said, but also to the sport itself. The park is a huge money maker in resorts in michigan. Like they just blew all this money on a new chairlift when the other one right next to it works fine. And most of the time they don't even use the damn Thor chair anyway. I just feel like they blow all this money on random things, but they cant throw us a bone and give some funding to the park? I mean at least enough money to make some new features. Like you just spent how much on a new chair? you cant spend a fraction of that on a simple tow rope? It would bring in so much more revenue and not to mention hype if they just try to make a decent park. And by no means am i hating on the park crew, they don't have the funding. But they could learn how to make jumps...whatever.

Anyway.......... =/ Yes, there will be some new stuff at Crystal. Locations are staying the same but heres whats in the works. 20-25 ft steel corrugated pipe, 20-25 ft pvc, 20-25ft plastic corrugated, 36"D 8ft tall pylon, plus replacement of of the two small boxes in giggles with two new 20ft flat boxes and even possibly one more feature yet to be named. Plus refined jump angles to get all of us in the air more while still being smooth and safe. All the Jumps/angles will be digital leveled this year, So there will be nothing left to chance. Also going to try to get some sort of mini jump line in giggles to try minimize the amount of gapers in the big park. oh almost forgot, if they let me I got at least one tractor tire as well. Probably could put out some sort of pole jam if anyone was interested as well.Also resheeting the rainbow and a frame.

Not sure about everything yet, but Im optimistic! We do have some sort of a budget for features....

As soon as I get the final word I will post some pics and will be open for well thought ideas for setups.

We will have some new features,the list above is quite large. Not sure if everything will happen but I think theres a good chance that most of it will.

Now all we need is cold and snow!!!!?????

So.... We have the 8ft tall 36" pylon(got it yesterday just gotta cap it), the 20 steel corrugated pipe, a pvc pipe, and looks like two new flat boxes. Also, if I get the OK we can pick up a tractor tire or two. Since so many have offered to help out, I was thinking about getting the big battleship out. It takes at least 6, preferably 9 or 10 guys to set. It would be cool to organize everyone to come out and help get that out. we could all talk about the location and set up as it will be a bear to move once its done......thoughts?

I'm about 15 minutes away, so im good to help out whenever (as long as its in the evening or on the weekends) but I could round up a couple other people to help, havent seen the battleship set up in years. But all sounds good, thanks again for the update.

how does this place compare to granite peak? some family friends are going on a trip here and my family wants to drag me with. does it have enough stuff and variation to keep you occupied for 2-3 full days of skiing?

Well if im looking at the riight place, Granite Peak looks like it has much more attention and care put into their park. And it was rated #1 park in the midwest by Transworld? Yea in that case, Crystal dosent really compare at all, if thats what your looking for. (Crystal is known as as a "family friendly resort,") not really for their vertical terrain or park. You could probably be occupied if you just wanted to work on new stuff on some more generic park features such as a down rail or some flat boxes. But Crystal doesn't have much for variety. (although it sounds like its gonna get better with the ^ new improvements) Not trying to downplay or sway business, it may occupy you for 2-3 days only because it will be "new terrain," but not promising anything.

yeah, i'm not expecting much of a park. is it big enough for some tree skiing and messing around? or is it like 20 seconds runs to the bottom everytime, lift back up, and repeat?

Yeah, Granite Peak I think has close to double the vertical of Crystal. Alot more terrain there.

As far as repairing some of the old features, most are like10 or 15 years old and not even worth putting time and money into. The battle seems ok tho. Will be grinding the whole thing down to fresh steel and then repainting it. should be pretty sweet. I was thinking about chopping up the couple old rails and salvaging for cash for new stuff, may off set any budget issues for next year some. Rails/boxes are usually at the end of their life span at 10 years or so.

The steel corrugated is done just needs a little finish work, should be able to start building the two new 20ft boxes this week when the steel comes in.

to ski cheers? no. I wouldn't even think about it. unless they open tucks with a box or 2. which I doubt they will because of the conditions.

Thats what i was thinking. It seems like it really wouldnt be hard to just throw out a box on the terrain park on cheers, but knowing crystal they wont.

yeah, it would be cool if you could throw out the corrugated pipe (assuming it dosen't weigh a ton) or a box/small rail, something that wouldnt require too much snow to set up.

from all the pictures theyve shown it seems like they have enough snow to just build a small lip for a rail, so i hope they put one up last minute.

to be honest. If i were management. I would at least have main street and the clipper running. 20 bucks is a little steep for one run and one lift. If you get main street open, and giggles, and cheers, then you can charge that much. you need the clipper running at least. I dont plan on going saturday, but for those people who are, its going to be one big cluster fuck.

they had pretty much the same format last year on opening weekend, and it really wasnt busy at all, at least when I was there. Probably because people get bored of going down one run.

I mean I say they need cheers main street and giggles to be open to have people pay to go there. 20 dollars for one run is stupid. put a box and a rail on giggles and have cheers and the clipper running. more people would come. by looking at their webcam the base down by the clipper looks good enough, i dont know about up top though.

If crystal dosen't have a park by then, try to head up to Otsego Park on the 17th-18th.....opening weekend and only 10 bucks to ride. And theres gonna be rails up (i think)

Hopefully they will have a park, i will be filming with my friends with my shit kodak playsport camera (it gets 1080 but blows), i have baggy blue fd pants, my friends got armada pants, and we pretty much all have line skis haha
