I would be really surprised if any frats did serious hazing any more. That's a pretty good way to get shut down. Not to mention the possibility of criminal charges.
Call me a douchebag. Call me an arrogant little cocksucking dickhead. Beat the shit out of me if I'm not with fifteen of my B-frat friends (unlikely). But just know this: I interned at Smith Barney this summer. Where did you work? A Blockbuster? That's right you insignificant sack of dogshit; I'm going to be your boss
lol jk theyre just pretty duschy at WSU, most of the other frats are chill too, and i like how you put it, it really is the greatest time of your life, and the bond is like family almost
and this year only 60 guys rushed. Our total student population is around 800. And most of those guys are athletes. So they dont prefer to join fraternities.
this fall we got 23 guys. so we are getting up there. when I joined we only had 18 men in the house.
Who says non-frats can't have 100+ people throwing down for a party? Ever heard of $5 at the door? 200+ people show up to the party that's $1000+ for party supplies. Sure the very first party of the year will be 4-6 guys throwing down, but if everyone knows that you'll be throwing sweet parties they're willing to still throw down $5 at that party so there's money to throw down at every party after that. I'm guessing you didn't go to a big ass school where greek life wasn't the end all be all?
Cool keep quoting your stupid fratty monologue from some other dumbass on the internet, you obviously aren't smart enough to come up with your own response. Actually I worked at a grocery store this summer in my home town and had a great time skiing, bouldering, hiking and generally enjoying the out of doors. I'm studying to be a Chemical Engineer I don't care if you're my boss. I don't care if you make more money than me because the fact i, I know more than you and I'll be more successful doing what I want to do than running a business or managing finances. If that's even anywhere close to what you end up doing anyways I'll be surprised.
The long monologue and the second reply from it are verbatim from the Georgetown Heckler, a campus SATIRE site which is why the original was in quotes. People actually thought that was real?
Smith Barney doesn't even really exist any more. It's part of Morgan Stanley.
I'm just a grad student. In my field I'll be lucky to make $70k out of school.
Sorry I don't think all frats are filled with the douchiest guys to ever walk this planet. It's like saying all skiers only wear 5XL talltees with their pants around their knees and their jacket down there as well.
The 8 kegs reference was just an example. And you're right. There definitely are parties where people charge cover and its a rager. But frats don't charge a cover. About 90% of those non-frat giant parties only happen once a semester (per house)based off a study i just made up for this post. Frats do that on a monthly or even biweekly basis. That is all I'm getting at.
grow up dude. even if there were no haters, the fact that you'd consider discussing shit that should be just between yourself and your brothers, especially your pledge brothers, is disgusting. even beyond just the fact that it is wrong, what enjoyment would you get from telling some random geed about a bunch of stuff he would neither empathize with or understand? its pointless dude. they just don't get it. it should be meaningful enough to you without having to go around blabbing the details of what awful shit the older brothers did to you to a bunch of random kids on the internet.
If you would take notice, it was to a Sig Chi (not a "geed") whom I was talking to. Sig Chi's Alpha Chapter is at my university and recently got kicked off. I was merely talking about the recent events that happened. I'm not a Sig Chi, just thought I'd shed some light as to what happened on campus last year.
This whole paragraph is what is wrong with Frats and Frat bros. You talk about us "Geeds" like we are some sort of lesser human, and half of you believe we are. In reality we could give two shits, we geeds just think its immature and childish when you talk about how many "benefits" and "connections" you get from your fratiness. We think it's stupid that you hold this idealistic thought above your head that you are so much cooler and your parties are so much bigger and that everyone gets so much more drunk. Cool? Not really. The truth is really though that we wouldn't get it, we wouldn't understand and we wouldn't empathize because we don't think that you get closer to your "brothers" by sticking a thumb up their butt or by vodka waterboarding. If you asked my brother I feel like he'd tell you the same thing. I hate that this always happens when frat kids start talking about their frats to geeds but inevitably a fight breaks out because you always feel the need to prove yourselves to us. All you have to do is let us know you are in a frat and be done with it. We say cool and both move on. Unless you start bragging about all the super cool stuff you do like double extra small polo and sperry shopping with your bros that's when the shit starts.
got halfway in and stopped reading. i didn't use or mean the term geed in a derogatory way, merely descriptive. my post was not about being cooler than independents or throwing bigger parties than them or fucking more girls than them or any other stereotype you can think of. your response is as much proof of the validity of my words as i could ask for though, and i mean that in a purely observational sense, not as an insult or an assertion. my post was dealing solely with the personal experiences and bonds a pledge class forms that are meant to stay between them. we don't talk to people about them for the reason that they hold inherent meaning to only those involved, meaning that is misunderstood and discredited by those who were not directly involved. its the "outside looking in" syndrome. i could tell you word for word what i did during pledging, and you might consider it to be the stupidest things youve ever heard of, whereas my pledge brothers and i consider those nights to be some of the most meaningful we've ever experienced. you might call us freaks or faggots for that, but we feel differently. thats all i was saying. that post was one of the least immature in this thread in my opinion, it was not meant in a malicious way
I think it's funny that you really didn't read that response at all but regardless I have no problem with individual frat kids. I actually have several friends in frats. The problem is the stereotypical frat bros that ruin the image of the fraternity system as a whole. What I've seen from people in this thread isn't helping the case either
you dont like the kid, dont hang our with him. Again, sounds like a personal problem...bud.
frat guys are just guys. some are assholes, some arent. some are funny, some are boring, and some are cool. some like sperrys, some like chuck taylors, some like grunge.
why is it so hard for you to turn the other cheek?
id have to agree with what you said about this thread. its an awful representation of the greek system, and about as stereotypical as it gets. anyone who reads this shit and judges the entire system based off of what a bunch of biased kids say on a message board is stright ignant. straight ignant.
I hear this all the time, and I suppose it must be like that at some of the bigger, national organizations on campuses. Not really possible for my fraternity, since we don't ask anyone to join who we are not already friends with. And it's not like we avoid every other person who wants to hang out. We enforce a 1 - 1 ratio at our parties (for everyone, greek or non-greek), because well who likes a sausagefest ? We have bands play parties with a projector playing skate vids behind them (once had Teddybear Crisis playing in the back, very epic). I don't know what it's like at the bigger national organizations, but my local fraternity has def introduced me to some of my best friends (both members and non). Yes I paid dues (I'm alumni now), but it goes directly to maintaining our house, paying for parties for everyone (we generally don't charge anyone), and some gets stockpiled in case of emergency (one of my brothers died last year skydiving at Lake Tahoe, and we gave his pregnant wife a bunch of money to try and help with everything). Generalize all you want, just know there are exceptions to the stereotype.
What exactly are fraternities all about? What's the difference between being in a fraternity and a hall/dorm? Why do people have such negative opinions towards them and their members?
I've only ever heard of them in movies and they seem like such over exaggerated stereotypes.
The stereotypes are definitely exaggerated to an extent, but I think where it comes from is just a power in numbers/groupthink kind of thing. An individual in a frat feels like he can be a raging douchepopsicle because he knows any one of his "brothers" will back him up with the same doucehbaggery, and then another brother backs both of them up with even MORE douchebaggery, until it just boils down to every fucker in the frat being a fucking cockass piece of shit. There are few exceptions.
It's a way for douchy college kids to rent friends under the guise that it will gain them connections or lifelong bonds when really, it's just a bunch of insecure kids who wanted to belong to something.
It's a win-win I guess, because we don't have to pay anything to not hang out with fucksticks like you. Frats are for the kids who want college to be like high school, because senior year of high school was the best their life will ever get.
i guarantee if you asked 1000 college girls who are bigger creeps, frat boys or "gdi's", more would say frat boys. And on a side note, the fact that you called me a GDI makes you a ever bigger toolbag. I didn't know it was bad to be an independent thinker.
since it's in quotes i don't know if thats you but it sickens me how proud that person is that daddy paid for him to be so "succesful" and rich. what a fucking prick
