Critique My Preseason Edit

What's up M&A. Made a preseason edit filming over about an hour. I realize it is a bit noisy because i had to crank my iso up to about 1600. What did you like and what was shit. Give me your worst. The password is "preseason"

yea i here ya there. It was tough because there was very little light so I was trying to make the most of it. thanks though

Okay - this might sound harsh, but i'm surely not hating on your video:
- It looked like you tuned the saturation/blues up a LOT and i really didn't like the blue glare coming from the lights you had set up... it would have worked a lot better if you had neutralized the colors so that the light was white/tinted yellow.
- Biggest mistake: making the whole thing in slow motion, particularly on short rails like that, it just doesn't look that good.
- I didn't really like the text that you used I think that you should have compressed the different titles together more and put it in a corner by a rule of thirds? Hard to explain, it just didn't look very good
- A lot of the shots seemed to be from the side or diagonally, you should have done some from behind and/or in front of the rail
- I didn't like the cross-blur transition or the bright pulsing that you used, they looked pretty amateur and didn't really fit this edit in particular, though i do think they're applicable in some situations (in other edits)
- Otherwise, I think that the shots that you did have were decent, and you definitely went right when you were tuning the blacks and whites

all very true. I actually didn't touch the blues at all. The blue light was just from my friends highbeams cause we needed more light. I kind of disagree in the sense of the slow motion taking away from it because the rail was so short that each clip would be sooooo fast without it. Thanks a lot!

got it. the colors did all look really good except for that light, so you went right there... and yeah i can see where you disagree. i think slow motion goes better with close ups, and the wider shots should be fast (generally speaking, i'm not saying that i'm right)

Definitely not bad, I would try to get a few different types of shots/angles in there, it seemed like you had a lot of the same ones in there. I would also stray away from shooting with the light coming into the camera, but it does look sick for a shot or two, just don't over do it. Definitely go for a full body shot, but change it up. The lights seems to be the toughest part, making it hard to deal with the ISO, white balance, and overall quality and color of the footage. I saw that you had one flood light so you had a power source, I would definitely get quite a few more of those, 3-4, but anything more would help (they're not too expensive, $10, $35 for stands with two). The car lights cause some of the problems just because of the type of light they have.

I definitely think you'll be set for your next edit tho, keep it up

I like the style;it goes well with the length. For some of the shots, replace with regular motion just so you have some variety. In terms of shots, I liked the close up but mix it up with bunch of different angles (in front, above, in the car... With your edit you could get creative.

i feel like even tho there wasn't a lot of light you could still get a lot wider angles and some variety in the shots. wasn't a fan of the always fade to black transition really broke up the edit too much for me. also with the beaming blue light, again, maybe just re-color correct so its a little softer white/yellow ish imo. agree on the slow mo because its such a small rail but they don't all have to be slowed down, add a couple of quick shots but with the rider in the full frame, he'll light up well enough even in those conditions
