Need help from the lil wayne and 50 cent fans

I am writing a script and make a reference to major accomplishments by both these individuals; Lil Wayne and 50 cent. It is my understanding that they both have achieved platinum records, Lil Wayne maybe more then one? Are these the only people in the rap game to do this? whats the definition of a platinum record? +K to those that can help. I have an understanding of it, i just need the technicalities.
