Nikon to Canon - Lens Converters. Any Experience?

I haven't heard that they degrade quality, intact many of the older nikkor lenses are still some of the best around and quite popular with hdslr users. With that said, the 70-300 is a variable aperture g lens. This means that the aperture will change, so you can't zoom with it, and 4-5.6 is pretty slow. Also, and perhaps the biggest issue is that it is a g lens, which means that you will need a special adapter, which will cost anywhere from $80 to $300, and you won't even be able to dial in a specific aperture. It will let you use the whole range, but from what I have heard, you can't just press a button and dial in an f8 (this is possible on the redrock micro ef to m43 adapter).

What is your budget, and what other gear do you have?

Just buy another nikon body?

the 70-300 isnt worth much, just dump it with your d40x for another 100 bucks and buy canon lenses.

which 70-300 is it? if it's the d model then it will adapt pretty easily and you can use it. if it's g then there is no aperture ring and you should sell it and get a canon version

oops, forgot to add that no matter what model it is that you will lose AF, IMO you should sell it and get a canon version

its this version of the 70-300, so still worth a fair whack even 2nd hand.

I’m switching to canon for the video capabilities, nikon just don’t have a well-priced camera that does 60fps @ 720p. hence why im going for the 600d.

So although I love the Nikon and the 70-300, I got a 600d and as people said it’s a lot of hassle using a converter as I’ll lose AF and a few other features.
