No street ski comp in x games again

maan, total bummer. once again there will be no Street Comp for skiers in the X games. I have no idea why they deny us like this. I would pay to see LJ show up all the snowboarders on the street course.

For those of you who dont know. they introduced 2 new events in the xgames last year for snowboarders. Real Snow and Snowboard street. The former is a video based comp, where contestants film a short seg of themselves shredding anywhere they please, and then the segs are judged online by fans. The segments put out by the boarders were all outstanding. especially Nic Suave.

snowboard street is basically a rail jam, but with some really gnarly features. its a pretty standard format but it was super cool to see pros of the highest level all compete against another.


what do u guys think NS? are u as disappointed as me that you wont get to see lots of awesome mini-segs and vote on them? dont you think it would be satisfying to see LJ and Tom 450 onto an urban rail while the snowboarders struggle to 270?

Yah i was pretty bummed when there was no skiing one.

It could be like other competitions where just at night theres an open rail jam and most pros who are in the actual event enter. So it could be last minute, or so i hope.

disappointed that ski street won't be included, but I disagree with you about skiers doing a lot of spinning onto rails shows up snowboarding. Skiing lends itself to spinning on and off, but snowboarders can get a lot of variation in positioning on the rail and presses. It's a difference in equipment, not a difference in skill or viewer enjoyment.

i guess maybe they didn't think the skiing events would draw the revenue/fan base needed to put them on. i really think x games underestimates how strong the freeski community is, and how passionate the fans are. i really hope that they right these wrongs in the future. for now, im just super dissapointed. oh well, i guess we can always watch the snowboarders...

War Of Rails 2012. We wont need xgames street after you see what I have in store for you all. W.O.R this year will have a new course layout with street scene in mind.

dude snowboarding has so much more money than skiing that's probably why they are paying for snowboarding to be put on a higher pedestal than skiing, so that skiing looks like a gay aerials sport and they can look all cool and pretend to be skateboarding.

Yeah Im not planing on jumps this year. I'm really trying to focus on more of a street scene. Either way I guarantee it will be a event that will be far from your average competition. Put it in your calendar boys. Feb 23rd-26th 2012.

man i just watched the edit of last years comp. it was insane! so happy u are doing it again. hopefully spencer, casabon and mcrae compete again.

The fact that the vast majority of non-skiers don't even know that freesking exists is extremely depressing. The misconception that skiing=racing is getting really old. However xgames does not "suck ass", as it is pretty much the only exposure the sport gets.

That would be impressive for sure, but I still find 450 out pretty ugly. Just my opinion though. Also it's nick Sauve. For some reason tons of people keep misspelling his name.

Are you serious man? Snowboarders kill it 100x harder than skiers in urban it's not even funny. Buy this movie and then you will understand. But I do agree it would be sick to have a contest like that

personally i dont think they should be events for anybody. especially realsnow or whatever it is; i dont think you should get an xgames medal for a video voted on online, those kinda things normally just get you a prize pack or sponsorship or something. its just not in the true big comp spirit. as for the street comp, we already have events for the three disciplines of freeskiing/snowboarding: big air, pipe, and slopestyle. making a downsized slope course with no big jumps (i assume thats what it is) just seems redundant. so yea im disappointed we didnt get it but id be happier if none of us had it

just because they repeatedly try to boardslide out of HUGE air in urban doesnt mean they go "harder". sure they go pretty big a bunch in this clip but i hope youre not measuring how hard they go by home many board they break haha

Honestly man, this right here speaks to your own insecurity. Why do you need outside validation? Ok, so the general consensus about skiing is that it's for old guys in spandex running gates....I don't see how that negatively impacts your, or anyone else's, enjoyment of whatever you choose to make of your ski experience.

 Sounds like more of an issue at a high school lunch table where you're getting teased about skiing.

To me, this is one of the biggest reasons skiing is generally looked down upon by others....this communal insecurity and desperation to be "accepted". It's this same collective impulse that leads kids to taking pictures of themselves in their outerwear, and saying stupid shit like "skierz can like spin more onto railz guize!".

If everybody gave less of a fuck about what "the outside world" thought about freeskiing, it would instantly make it "cooler".

Let's all agree to let the sport grow on its own...we don't need to shit every time snowboarding is put ahead of skiing.

If the event is a huge flop in terms of popularity or profitability then its only a half bad investment for them. Plus I think there's a tendency for the X GAmes to portray snowboarding as "leading the way" for freeskiing. XGames has always been kind of homo anyway.

I don't know, I do a whole lot of urban and I see snowboarders do shit I wouldn't even think of doing, not only because it's huge but they are mad creative and do stuff I haven't seen skiers do. The level of urban skiing is getting higher every year and it has definitely gotten crazy but I don't think skiers have the creativity and hit the features that snowboarders do.

Vacation and shoot the moon blew my mind. have yet to see Familia 2 but im sure its fucked. Weight and beggin for change are a good step forward in urban skiing but it is defiantly still lackin behind the snowboarding game
