Skiing Deaths

Honestly, that's the price of pushing the envelope. It's getting harder and harder to one up people in any sport these days. What happens is you take risks in the name of progression and some get lucky and some don't. It's a shame but that's just how it is. The upside is that each time something like this happens it creates more awareness for the hazards and more people will get avy training that might have otherwise not. Calculated risks are a part of the sport and any skier who doesn't take those risks into account is foolish. Heck I literally saw a snowboarder die in a beginner park. No shit. You go out in the backcountry and those risks increase exponentially. So don't let these people die in vain. Learn from it and take the steps to decrease your own risks. Hopefully this way we won't lose the next great athlete.

Oh sorry. Jus saw that reply. Yeah a kid went off a pretty big booter out of control and the landing was basically a sheet of ice. Well he got inverted and smacked his head, started floppin like a fish, and bleeding our of his eyes, ears, etc. Long story short, patrol said the kid died in the ambulance. Pretty shitty. That was like 12 yrs ago and not many peeps were wearin helmets back then.

^that's pretty miserable...just think if he would have been wearing a helmet.

I'm not advocating against using helmet by any means, but with the stuff people are doing in terrain parks now, its still very easy to hurt or hill yourself. Just like in the NFL, helmets protect you against injury, but they also lead some people to think they're more protected or invulnerable to injury. You can have the safest 30 foot step over in the world, a full line up of injury prevention equipment on the best pro in the game, but one off balance takeoff and its curtains.
