Powder Skis for the Sierra Cement

I ski around tahoe and im getting really tired of having my tips go under the powder and instantly i come to a complete stop. I'm going to the UNR ski swap today and want to pick up some powder skis so i can have a little more fun in the powder. What type of skis would be best for the sierra cement?

jj's are my powder ski, i also ski tahoe and mammoth so its all wet heavy pow and i find that you can float very well and when that sierra cement gets skied out they still crash thru the crud

Just make sure to get something with rocker it helps so much out here. I ski the moment night trains and they are floaty as can be

In terms of pow skis your probably going to want something a little stiffer for powering through chop once it gets skied out. The JJ's like someone above mentioned would work well, or something similar like the atomic benchetlers. No matter what you get you will probably have fun, but I would avoid some of the softer and flexier skis.

it all depends on what you want to do. are you going to be shredding at 30+mph and sending cliffs 20ft+? or are you going to be surfing around popping on 10 footers and finding fun little natural terrain features? or are you going to be shredding pow like a slalom skier? diffenet strokes for different folks.


what do you want out of the ski? How big are you?


And JJ's are medium-soft FYI.

Well im 6'1, 145 lbs. so i was thinking about getting size 181's or something around there. Im planning on mostly just shredding and occasionally hitting a cliff but nothing too drastic

Heavy, stiff, rockered, in that order. Choose whatever is the best out of those. Rockered tail is a absolute must IMO.

I talked to a guy in a ski shop today and he said that Atomic makes Armada skis in their factory and even showed me how the side walls are exactly same and the shape is basically the same too. Now that i have narrowed it down to those two, what makes one better than the other

In no particular order, you should check out these Tahoe locally made skis: Moment, Praxis & PM Gear. You can get a tour of their factory, talk to the builder of your skis and their proving grounds are the same places that you will be skiing.

this. i know praxis makes sick skis specially designed for exactly what you are skiing. check out the praxis BPS or powder boards. also if your looking for something where the tip will never dive even once, check out some k2 pontons. I ride a pair of the mconkey tribute ponttons and they are the most surfy fun pow skis i have ever been on, my favorite for sure. they charge hard and they are even fun to jib around on too, i can land switch and butter on them fine. definately ones to check out.

*if you do go with the pontoons though, i would suggest getting an older pair maybe the blue ones from last year because they still hav the original twintip shape on them, it wuld just be better to jib on unless all you do is charge.

BENT CHETLERS. holy mother of god these skis are amazing for all conditions and they float like none other. they slay it on every snow condition.

Highly recommended: ON3P Wrenegades. Stiff, rockered, with camber. Close to a one ski quiver. Can handle Sierra/Cascade cement, pow and charges. You won't be disappointed.

if he calls our snow sierra cement, and says he has massive problems with tip dive, he probably shouldn't be skiing something super stiff IMO, look at the solly rocker2, super poppy and floaty.

Are these Night Trains or Ghost Chants? Rocker profile tells me they are chants... could be wrong though

PM gear BRO model that he had made or made him self, probably the one that was like a modified Spat, cause it kinda looks like a reverse reverse type ski
