Extreme sports and buttoned-down business telecom devices don't usually mix, but their union in 2009 saved the life of one skier. Traipsing down a glacier in Switzerland that year, the snow gave out on one man, who fell 70 feet before being trapped suddenly between two rocks. According to the skier, it was his BlackBerry, nestled in the breast pocket of his jacket, that added the extra bit of thickness to secure him from plummeting another 700 feet down the mountainside. According to The Sun, the skier suffered from hypothermia and a broken jaw while waiting two hours for a rescue chopper, but was later able to call his wife from the hospital on the very phone that saved his life.
i thought that was pretty cool
