Sherpas All.I.Can. vs. Art of Flight

The two best action sports movies of the year (some argue of all time). Which is better?
I just downloaded Sherpas All.I.Can. and was completely blown away with the cinematography and overall message and think it will go down as one of the best ski movies ever. Having watched the Art of Flight at least 4 times as well I was overall more impressed with All.I.Can. I would agree that the riding in Art of Flight is a bit better than the Sherpas riders (with the exception of Kye Petersen who slays) but in the grand scheme of things All.I.Can. was more carefully produced and reminds us of the real reasons why skiing is the best thing ever and how we need to preserve that opportunity for future generations.

Cinematography wise the two are very comparable. Actual filming of riding in both movies was great as well. Both featured some sick locations. All I Can had JP's Urban seg + the environmental message. AOF had the Aspen park seg and the Jackson BC shoot. IMO Art of Flight was slightly better. The riding was just ridiculous.

AOF was better, but they also had a way bigger budget. I liked the story behind All I Can better though

Art of Flight has a helicopter filming a helicopter filming a airplane, going around the world riding sick shit and not giving a fuck.
All I Can has a message of saving the environment and is almost preachy with segments all around the world including a trip to South America where they ride horses to a Volcano and go touring... ....while filming it with a helicopter. Oh, and don't forget the segment with Dan and his sled filling up gerry cans and riding his sled around. mixed message much?
I found both videos were good, but All I Can was kind of hypocritical with it's message. But on the other side of things, the Nelson segment in Art of Flight had no riding in it...
As you may have noticed by now, I will not claim one is better than the other. It's too subjective to have a real answer to your question.

I think you're missing the point. Remember JP jokingly saying that the only real way to live a perfectly environmentally friendly lifestyle would be to sit inside and try not to breathe too much? I thought that was pretty funny... but they went on to explain it's not about doing less, but rather doing more. More in the way of finding ways to continue your life while offsetting your actions.
What's so wrong about them showing gas cans getting filled up? It's not exactly shocking that sleds run on gas. If anything, it's an honest approach to an attempt toward lessening environmental impact instead of bliss through ignorance.

I think this nailed it. In order to make a get their message across to a widespread audience they had to make something that people would really want to watch and honestly, who is going to watch a big mountain flick filmed completely on gopros and from the bottom of the mountain?
In the end their message is a success if it causes you to personally evaluate your environmental impact and it definitely did that for me while at the same time showing bad ass footy, albeit shot from a gas guzzling helicopter.

Not that I believe it does much/anything they did show their carbon offsetting stats in the credits, so at least they tried not to be too hypocritical.
I prefered it to AOF, I also preferred Deeper from the year before to AOF. Those big snow camping/touring trips look like a lot of fun (except when you get stuck in the tent 10 days (see deeper)).

I don't want this to become a debate about the environment, but carbon offsetting (and "carbon credits") is a joke. You want reality? The only way to not pollute the planet is to not pollute the planet. Flying around the world and using helicopters to film and/or sledding around the mountains all winter is NOT how you "save" the environment.
Want a ski/snowboard video that is actually "good" for the environment - go watch Deeper. The best part is that Jeremy doesn't even get preachy about it, hell - he's not even doing it for the reasons of environmental impact (he has POW for that), he's doing it because it's a genuine want.
All that behind - All I Can is visually entertaining, everyone should buy it.

Having just read in more detail what carbon offsetting does, I basically agree. I think its probably better than nothing, but it does very little to reduce the impact of heli-filming etc. To clear it up for those who don't know, carbon offsetting is basically buying 'carbon credits/points/offsets' which are measured by volume and charged at a certain rate. The theory goes that you buy an equivalent volume to what you produce and that somehow helps, although mostly it seems designed to let governments off the hook with regards to reducing emissions and to ease individual/company consciences. The money then goes in to renewable energy projects etc, which produce power 'carbon free' thereby offsetting the carbon you emitted, in this case by flying around in a gas-guzzling helicopter. Like i said, I'm sceptical at best.
That said, and as Drail also said, All I Can is a great movie, beautifully filmed and amazing skiing. I preferred it to AOF. I preferred Deeper to both though, up there with Idea as my all time favourite snow movie. It wasn't 0 environmental impact but it was better than anything else I've seen.
They are all great videos though, everyone should see them all.

just finished watching all.i.can and i'm still breathless.
Its a ski movie like no one has put out yet and i appreciate how different it was. I take it as they're trying to raise awareness more than anything. The cinematography simply blew me away.
ann JP's urban segment... holyyyyyyyyshittttttt. LCD's dance yourself clean was a perfect choice and JP makes it look so flawless and so ridiculously easy. Probably the most fun you can have. the entire movie was just so well filmed and the skiers never failed to impress me. (what up Kye)
personally, All.I.Can scooted itself right onto my favorite ski movie out there.
