Who else thinks it's ultra boring? I also am having an argument with my teacher about why it's useless, and points you guys could give me to make would be great.
I am beginning to hate my Shakespeare class. Acting shit out is fun, but going in and picking it apart is incredibly useless. It isn't even like normal English, where writing analyses on stuff makes you a better writer. No, we just take tons of completely useless notes and get a shit score if we don't do enough.
Shakespeare is one of the most influential people when it comes to the history of our language. Sure it can be hard to read and understand but has contributed more to our literary history than any other person. Feel free to not read his works but you owe a great deal of the language you speak to that man. To say it's useless is completely untrue and you should at least try to make an effort to learn it.
Can anyone talk about some stuff that Malvolio and Don John may have in common (aside from maybe jealousy)? I have to write 3000 words about "discontents" in Twelfth Night and Much Ado... I have no clue what to say.
its more of a lesson in how to read things critically. a valuable life skill. if you can understand all the subtleties and word-play that shakespeare used then i would say you are well a head of the curve.
After reading Brave New World, I take this statement back. It sucks because I'm not good at it and I still find it tedious, but it is useful. Just maybe not an entire semester devoted to it...
i dont find it boring.. once you do it over the years you develop appreciation for it. its not just some old shit that some semi bald guy wrote, its often the source that most famous writers get their inspiration from. the start of the worlds renowned literature pieces.
