these campaigns are long in duration and require a lot of money. enough time for the candidates to gather all the favors that they're going to have to reciprocate on when they 'make' it. dog and pony show.

After watching the previous debates, my mind is made up. I will be voting for Ron Paul (I was already pretty decided, but tried to go in with an open mind knowing that Paul is a very long shot). If he is not the candidate, I would vote for Huntsman or possibly Romney. Rick Perry, Michele Bachman, Santorum and the rest of the right-wing "moral" crusaders will never get my vote and I can only hope they all fall off the political map forever.

So unless I will support the Republican candidate blindly, I can gtfo?
Glad that you picked up on why I would consider voting for Huntsman or Romney.
I am tired of the "conservative" movement being tyrranized by the moral elitists swaying elections based strictly upon emotional social issues.
In other words, if I can't get exactly what I want in a candidate (R. Paul) then I can pull for a candidate that still believes in a "conservative" fiscal policy and yet still holds a more libertarian view on social policies.
There is a tipping point when it comes to voting for a political office, and for me it comes when said candidate wants to try to legislate so-called moral values.
Also, maybe the reason someone like Obama even stands a chance in getting re-elected is because the alternative doesn't offer what the majority is looking for (at least that is my hope. God help us if the majority actually wants an Obama-esque type candidate, the second time around).
