Haggling at shops..

So, I've been looking around for a new pair of boots, and I found a pair that feels awesome (Salomon Impact 100 cs, has anybody used them before).  The one problem is that they're selling them at MSRP of 500 bucks.  I don't want to buy them online, but I really can't afford that price right now...  Has anyone had any success in haggling the price down of goods?  The store is Skirack in Burlington VT, and I know they had a sale recently, I just missed out.

Any insight at all would be awesome!

I doubt you will be able to talk them down in price. They might throw in a free heat mold, or ski tune.

They are a retail business just like any other.

One time I went into a shop and said I only had $150 to spend on bindings and mounting. They actually met that by giving me 10 or 20% off the bindings and a free mount which was pretty cool. I guess it's at least worth a try

this is a valid point.

depending on how big the shop is, they might work with you a little on it, especially if it's a smaller shop and you go there a lot. just go in and let them know what you can do right now for money and maybe they'll give you a discount. if it's not a huge shop, they'll most likely work with you a little bit.

as far as current year products, 11/12, the price is set with in 10-20% off being the max off.  However if they have any last year products, 10/11, they need to get rid of it scoring you the consumer up to 50% off!

If it is a small independant owned shop bring in a case of beer and they might give you like 15 to 20 percent off. Build a relationship and the discounts will start coming.

You are dealing with a mom & pop shop that specializes in boot-fitting and offers you a LIFETIME boot-fit guarantee on a boot model that sells out every year. I wouldn't expect too much more especially since that boot-fit guarantee is worth a lot.

Are you a member of the UVM Ski & Snowboard Club or FST? They get discounts on gear, year round.

It's also at the MAP (minimum advertised price), the MSRP is actually much higher and what you find at the resort shops.
