How much did Oakley pay to get their combat gloves in MW3?
Well the title says it all. How much did Oakley pay to get their combat gloves in the game. Can't mistake the huge O on the tan gloves in the first scene on the game.
Probably nothing, I'm guessing whoever it was that made the new call of duty just asked to put them in. It obviously creates a positive image as oakley is a great company and well known amongst their target audience. It got you talking about it after all.
Thank you for that clarification, but I am well aware how advertising works... In this example it's up for debate who is benefitting more from the use of the logo. For the COD guys it adds an attractive and familiar brand young people associate with and for Oakley it's a placement in one of the biggest video games. Both are benefitting, similar to Apple in Transformers, but it's different when you're showcasing new products like Apple was.
MW3 could have been several other company logo's in, and benefitted from it, so as far as money goes, this would be product placement meaning Oakley paid to have their product showcased.
Yeah if they have their logo they probably paid a considerable amount but i wouldn't say it was some crazy number like i highly doubt it was over a million but i could be wrong. But i mean using a famous song in a movie is expensive like forrest gump their music budget was enormous if you want to put the a popular rolling stones song in a movie its a chunk of change
oakley does supply a ton of shit for soldiers but there's definitely money involved in any product placement like that. in fact, im pretty sure youre not allowed to just go ahead and do it without consulting the company
If you knew how advertising worked than you'd know nothing is for free, that's the bottom line. Even when people smoke in movies it's because they've been paid to put it in.
ok well, coming from someone who actually studies film, I can tell you this and most other claims about product placement in this thread are b/s. Filmmakers (and video game makers im assuming too) want to use certain products to effect the image of the film. Companies pay, but not always as much as you think, and yes, the filmmakers often do want to have those products in their films.
That being said, product placement is fucking shameless and only low-lifes like michael bay would resort to it.
I doubt it was very much, if anything, as army troops already use Oakely gear so by having it in MW3 they're staying consistent with common army attire.
not really the point but oakley actually gives those glove to the army, they are standard issue glove... and since the solders are american solders then kinda have to use then so its correct
Yeah, but if they just made the guy have black gloves nobody would think any different. I'm assuming MW approached Oakley and said we want to put Oakley gloves in the game. then they talked how much Oakley would pay to have then put an O on their gloves. I'm willing to bet it was a pretty hefty amount. I mean this is advertising in arguably the biggest game of year. Dont be foolish and think they just went through the extra trouble of putting O's on all the gloves just to be accurate.
because MW3, as stated many times already in this thread, including right above me, benefits from being as realistic as possible. Even when it comes down to the gloves soldiers wear.
