Hating Everything You Make?

I am I the only one who is like this? I literally hate every single video I make and think it is absolutely terrible. I was stoked on my timelapse reel this summer because it was IMO my best work so far and now looking back that even sucks. I guess it motivates me more, but I wish I could actually like what I make...

That probably just means you're getting better. The day you get exactly what you want with no room for improvement is the day you have given up, keep going!

It's not that I hate my stuff, it's that I'm very critical of the things I put out. When ever I point out shit to my friends that I don't like they tell me it's very subliminal and they wouldn't have noticed it if it weren't for me pointing it out.

i think its natural to know that even after you finish your "best edit yet" the next day you will think that it is nowhere near your true potential which is a good thing because thats what pushes innovation. the video i just made and uploaded earlier today, i thought was pretty well filmed but looking back i want to go change some stuff and tweak a few colors. and videos i've posted in the past look like garbage at times. maybe its just because you are already sick of a piece after you finish because you have seen every single little detail about it and know exactly every little thing about it so its not like you will ever be able to "wow" yourself with your own work.

happens to all of us man! I mean, hate is a strong word, but it shows that you know you can work on and improve your works

Its because you find flaws in your work and its gonna happen every time you make a video.

I always look back on them and find things I should've done better, I think it just means I'm learning from my mistakes and improving each time I make a new video

feel the same way... probably cause you basically watch it 100 times while editing. there is always the "oh i should have done this..." or "i wish i didnt..." with the filming and editing when you watch it after. but what can you do... just keep making edits i guess haha

It takes a really long fucking time to learn how to self critique... and then longer to do it effectively, and then longer to be able to do it and have your critique be thourough and thoughtful enough to actually help you out. Hating everything you do is part of the process.
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing perfect. Stay up all night and make it happen. I'm awake right now because I am working on a project that isn't done till it's perfect, due date is wednesday morning. I love this shit.
I could do something that the client is happy with and I'm OK with... but it's not worth it to go less than what I want it to be.

It's good to have a balance. Sure, you should be looking out for the things you don't like and remember what they are. But at the same time, you need to find all the things you really like a lot, because that's what will give you the confidence to keep trying new stuff and progressing. I know people who say 'I made this, but it fucking sucks' for literally every piece they make, and it's kind of depressing to hear. I feel like if I had that mentality, I would never find motivation to keep trying.

ok. I feel like it actually motivates me more to keep on trying, more to strive for perfection, so I think in some aspects its actually as good thing. It does have downsides for sure though

This. The average person will only watch your video once maybe twice. So to them it seems like a fine edit. But you have watched that edit upwards of 100 times by the ending point so you kinda just get sick of it so you start calling out its flaws.
By the way that timelapse edit was sick as fuck so don't even worry bout that.

Basically, when I show my work to other people, I take pride in what I made. But as I watch it I notice the numerous flaws with it and wish that I spent more time editing it and fixing it. But at the end of the day, how ever horribe the video is I take pride in making it.
