Starting out with halfpipe?

just wondered if this is a huge leap from ordinary slopestyle skiing, eventually when a person would be ready for it. Can currently do mistys, rodeos and couple of diffrent 540's..

how do i start out? what are the basics?
Asking cause my local mountain are expanding immensely, building a pipe including more.

Your abilities in pipe will depend on your general ability. I never ride pipe and I learned 5s second run in the one day I hit pipe last season (/claim), but I couldn't do shit like 3 years ago when I first hit pipe when I was bad at skiing

to ski pipe you need to learn how to ski pretty well. It's not like rails and park jumps where you don't really need to use your edges or have good body position.

I always sucked at pipe, I just couldn't ever pump well enough to maintain good amplitude.

just work on straight airs until you can get 2 feet out on both sides. Pipe skiing is the only time I find it useful to have sharp edges, as you need to hold an edge to keep speed. Start with alley oop 270s, and then go for 5s

Pipe skiing is scary as fuck. That's the main thing. Coming up to a 20' wall, of which the top 10' are solid ice is so fucking scary.
It's fun when it's hotter out and the walls are a bit softer though, but I'm too much of a pussy to hit pipe when it's so icy.

I think it is best when somewhat icy as long as it is cut well. Then there is more consistency.
