dvd burners

i am going to buy a dvd burner but was wondering if the new dual layer burners that came out are that much better or if you even need the dual layer technology to copy dvds?
my friend gave me a copy of dvdx copy so i got the software part taken care of but he didnt know shit about burners and figured someone on here mite so help me out.

I wouldnt go with a dual layer dvd burner, there's a ton of compatability isues with most dvd players ive heard, and blank dual layer dvds cost a ton of money and are hard to get. You can still rip dvd movies and burn them onto a single layer dvd, just get a program like dvd shrink

I just bought a dvd burner. Its not dual layer, but it was as cheap as getting a cd burner after rebates. so i got one. I think you can copy dvds even withought it tho. this is because dvd x copy was out before dual layer was, i THINK. im not sure tho

the guy at circuit city was tellin me how u can make an exact copy with a dual layer burner but cant u make an exact copy if u got dvdx copy and jus a normal dvd burner?

also do u guys know who makes the best dvd burners?
