Trebuchets

Hey I just built my trebuchet for physics class... Have any of you guys done the same project If so... How did you design a sling to get maximum range? Right now mine just launches into the ground. Help NS!!

one time my friend and i built one that was like twelve feet tall, but our wood tech teacher destroyed it at the end of the week.

Yeah my bud had one, and it was about 4 foot. Perfect size. It whipped snowballs like a demon.

You have to make one end release and the other end permanently attached to the arm. That way one end will realease at the optimal moment, which also releases your object

So mine had enough torque on it to throw a tennis ball 200 yards and take someone's arm off. Too bad it put so much pressure on the release mechanism it rarely released cleanly

Thing had ridiculous range. Built some smaller ones too.

i made one in seventh grade where the sling was fixed on one end and then the other end had a loop which went on a straightened out paperclip...that was probably a really shitty explanation but it worked awesome.

When we were younger my buddy had a huge ass one in his backyard on a hill that we would launch waterballoons with. One day we stole a shotput from school and put it in...it put a hole though his neighbors wall. We wern't allowed to play with it after that :(

tie a ring on one end of the launch rope connected to the basket for ammo. ring goes on curved nail or protruding thing which holds weight of launch basket. The nail or w.e you choose is attached to the end of the pendulum btw. The other end of the string with ammo is tied to the pedulum as well. thats how i did it. sry im high. dont know if that was the best describe. google will help. good luck

what my group did to eliminate the sling timing issue was we just taped a piece of string to the actual projectile and attached that to a pin that releases when the projectile and string reached the optimal spot in it's rotation to fly off on a 45 degree tangent. It took a little testing to get the angle of the pin perfect, but we didnt have to worry about the sling fucking up because there wasn't one.

sounds stupid and admittedly it's pretty lazy but our trebuchet shot flawlessly every time and threw things further than anyone else's. so we got 100% on it lol grade 12 physics was kind of a joke though
