So i've been snowboarding for around 6 years and i've decided I wanna start skiing too. Most of my buddies are hardcore jibbers and such, borrowing some old skis off of one of them. Im thinking i'd just be learning on some backyard rails and such. Is it gonna be really hard to pick up?
have you ever tryed a rail on snowboard? if yes then you will have the feel of rail. if not then you gonna have some hard time trying rails and stuff like that
Welcome to the wonderful and most definitely interesting sport we call skiing. What I suggest before hitting the park up is just start off on some mellow runs getting used to all the basics like turning, edging, learning how to speed and slow down, etc. It will pay off in the long run. Trust me.
I also recently made the switch from snowboarding. Just spend some time on the greens to get a feel for it. I switched last year and was able to do blacks by the 3rd day. You will pick it up turning and carving pretty quickly. But advanced techniques will be harder to pick up. Moguls are difficult for me and I've had a hard time with rails. Leaning forward and jumping feels pretty strange for me
To the OP good luck with it. My good bud just bought a whole new ski setup and is giving up boarding to jump head first into skiing. I've had a few friends do this recently and as korny as it sounds, best thing I could recommend is for real take a lesson. It will do wonders for your technique. Had one friend who went the lesson route and one who didn't and there's a def noticeable difference between the two. Especially on the steeper stuff.
im a snowboarder as well but by my third time out i was doin pencily ass three's and railslides or whatever the hell there called, i did ski as a kid though so that probably helped
Probably won't take you too long to catch up, its still all the same skill sets like balance, coridination and whatnot. I had a buddy who boarded for years and within 2 weeks of switching to skiing he was pretty much at the same level as the rest of the crew.
IM hoping it comes kind of easy. I was a skiier a while back, maybe 9 years ago and I'm just not content with snowboarding anymore. SO im gonna see how this turns out for me
