Being from the UK, i gotta leave the country to go ski instructing in the french alps. Obviously the mum and dad get quite emotional being only 19. Any1 else get the same?
Makes me feel good knowing ive always got family to fall back on.
Saying goodbye to family is never easy. I've been living in Italy for the past 2 months now (from US) and I can't wait to see them. Luckily, my brother is coming to visit me next week.
Where in the Alps do you ride? I was just in Les 2 Alpes last week and it was amazing! So jealous you ride those mountains every season.
Being a seasonally employed american, I only get to see my family when i have breaks inbetween jobs. I usually work holidays and never get to enjoy the ol fam damily get togethers.
The emotional side of it all becomes easier to deal with the more you move away from home. it's easy the more you do it, and it makes you a strong individual mate!
it's called life. "only" 19? dude, you're 19, what did you/they expect would happen? time to leave the nest and spread your wings. what, do you want to be living at your parents house when you're 30?
I left home at 18 and its never been hard for me or my parents. Id say they are stoked that im out doing what I want, and my dad probably enjoys not having to wear pants around the house.
I couldn't wait to leave the house again this year. I'm 19 and spent the school year in Calgary last year shredding COP and Banff a lot, came back home for the summer and now I've been in Whistler since September. It's rad up here.
Reminds me of 8 weeks ago when I left for Uni. I'm only 3 hours away from them but the folks got pretty upset! I'm pretty jealous that you get to go off and ski for a season to be honest!
Great responses guys. The reason for the birth of this thread is that my 2 older 24 yr old bros left like 2 hours ago, their driving down to switzerland (zermatt), and i see it every year. It humbles me to see thw family so close at these times.
It definitely gets easier. The first time I moved away I felt kind of homesick. Second time, not so much. Third time I didn't even notice. Now I've been back with my parents for almost a year and I can't wait to get the fuck out of here. Parents never like to see their kids go but you cant live with them forever.
Yeah! I always look forward to going home for the weekend or a few days but once I'm there I remember why I was glad to live away from home and be able to do whatever I want haha.
