OK so i live in Northern Michigan which is quite possibly the dumbest state ever as far as people go but especially the religious people and republicans if your not sure what i mean look up the matts safe school law which basically makes it legal to bully anyone if it says so in the bible

Me and this kid at my school got in a huge argument over if homosexuality is right or wrong and basically he thinks its wrong because it's immoral and they chose to love men so i asked him when he chose to be heterosexual and he said he didn't need to because he's not gay then i asked him why it's immoral and he said because god hates fags there fore he has to hate fags. Then this dumb ass asks me what i think god is going to do to me when i die and i told him im atheist (which made him what looked like shit a chicken) and i asked him why god hates fags. He completely ignores the question i asked and bitching me out about how im going to die and go straight to hell. So i asked what the giant spaghetti monster (ripping off south park i know) would say to him. of course has no idea what im talking about. so i told him i mean god and he just walks away. it seems like its like this for a lot people in my school/state + this kid had a posse of about 7 people repeating what he said

sorry if i offend anyone it just pisses me off

you have way too much faith in every state that falls below the mason dixon line.

and that seemed like an unnecessary jab at republicans. seems to be the only place in your argument that you mention them.

I'm not going to argue with this, because he presented very respectably and used sources and beliefs to back himself. however, I will respectfully disagree, but that's all. if more people presented the way he did, it would be much less of an issue :)

Do you know anyone gay? I literally have known a handful of people since saaaay.....1st grade, who have gone on to admit being homosexual and you know what? They were CLEARLY gay as little boys and girls. As in, no if and or buts about it, these kids were absolutely born different as their behavior was incredibly different at an age where conscious thought about behavior and how it is interpreted by others is impossible.

This assumption that homosexuality is a choice is a fucking joke. If you apply logic and critical thinking (and consider other differences amongst people either physical, or psychological) you might reconsider. Why would people just choose to be gay? Especially in a world that almost universally hates them, choosing to be gay makes zero sense. Want to guarantee a more difficult life? Be gay.

Then again, you apparently believe in Creationism, and I assume that the world was created in 7 days and is only a few thousand years old, right?

The mod was right, applying logic to a religious debate is pretty useless as religious people blindly believe improbable, illogical fairy tales and call it faith. The funniest part? All the posturing, the "believing" etc. is purely motivated by a fear of punishment after death and a punishment now by over zealous parents/authority figures.

Religion grosses me the fuck out, and I can't believe there are people belonging to my generation who say they're "Christian" with a straight face.

People have to rid themselves of homosexuality

if you don't believe in religion that's fine with me, im a christian it's what i believe

My point is that a man and woman were created for the core purpose of reproduction, and that is not possible through homosexuality.

Therefore homosexuality was not meant to be and people have the choice, sure you will be able to tell that some kids will probably be homosexuals when they grow up but you must try to prevent it

well the movie talks about a lot more than just the episcopal church. harvard seminary professors, some rebellious catholics, bishop desmond tutu and all kinds of different christians don't think the bible has to be interpreted to say homosexuality is immoral. Hell in brazil, the most catholic country in the world, gay marriage was recently legalized almost unanimously.

Your right about how scary the evangelical big business churches are becoming, especially in the south. but thats still a very small minority of the number of christians in the world (although they make their presence acutely acknowledged in america) and for so many people to hate on "christians" or even worse all religious people is a sign of ignorant intolerance.

I am a theistic agnostic, but i think that having a prejudice about someones character or intelligence because of the label society puts on their religion is equally as ridiculous as having prejudices against gay people.

Søren Kierkegaard famously wrote that logic (in the strict sense of the word) does not equate to rationality. He always talked about how religious belief is reasonable because it doesn't use logic but rather "the heart."

Technically, there is no logic (systematic study of inductive reasoning) at the base of religion, and you can't take offense when somebody points that out unless you believe that the principles of logic are the only reasonable method of establishing truth.

When somebody says "religion is illogical," they aren't saying "religion doesn't make sense" (although many wrongly mean it that way). They are literally saying "religion isn't founded on logical principals. This (important) differentiation is basic theology.

Some people stray off from the path and choose homosexuality, they are not born that way, there lives aren't pre-destined that way, it is a choice. Everyone living in this world has a choice and they control choices they make and how to live their lives. Therefore they choose to be homosexual some people can't help it but it still is a choice
