You can make just as many questions and then some with all of the theories out there for the start of the universe. Nobody fucking knows, our knowledge is evolving daily, stop acting like you guys are somehow more enlightened than 95% of the world and that you have it all figured out.. nobody does. If youre atheist, great, good for you, youve made a decision, but don't act like you guys are somehow smarter than the 95% of this world that decides to believe in something
Argh you just contradicted your self in such a big way. This is one of my massive pet hates. People who believe in something are the ones that are claiming to know something unknowable. Ok, straight up Atheists are also doing this, and you can criticise them all you want, because I believe they're incorrect also, but the majority of Atheists are agnostic atheists, meaning they accept that they don't know, but then choose not to believe, whilst accepting that they might be wrong.
What I'm saying is people who believe are the ones claiming to know something I don't. I choose to accept the fact that I don't know the unknowable.
while i agree with you in general, in this case that isnt the case. All i see on every religious debate on NS is "wow you religious are so fucking dumb, how can you believe in God? Wow you guys are dumbasses." Is there a problem with christians thinking they have it all figured out? of course. But in this case its the atheists that are at fault
i would like to add that christianity is the gold standard anyway so the other side has the right to scream a little louder.
like in 50 years, wouldnt it be great if an atheist becomes president? and before you say that morals will go down the shitter then, think about how many people died in afghanistan, iraq and vietnam. the first one was started by revenge, the other two by lies. not really christian imo.
I certainly wouldn't be against voting for an atheist president, and im a pretty conservative republican christian. Now, with that said, to earn my vote they would have to agree with at least some of my moral viewpoints, but the fact that they are or are not christian would not decide my vote. Just as an example, I support mitt romney, I disagree more with the mormon religion than I do with atheism, but I still support him because I agree with many of the moral and political stances that he takes. With that said, there are plenty of christians that would not consider voting for an atheist presidential nominee, which I dont think is right
I realize that my comment is just gonna get hidden in all the others, but im gonna say it anyway
whoever made that picture really is more of a detriment to their cause because they're making a stupid argument and dont have all the facts. We dont believe that the universe was created for us. Check your facts.
Even if the universe is infinite, it is composed of a finite variety of constituents. If something exists in and/or interacts with our universe, humans are capable of measuring or observing it. As far as we know from logic, reason, and evidence, no gods exist whatsoever. Most religious people won't argue that. We will never know everything, I agree. However, we are CAPABLE of knowing everything that exists in reality. For example, I don't know the street names in Beijing and never will, but I'm capable of knowing. This could be applied to alien species, knowledge of dimensions, etc. I think you'd find the psychology behind "divine" experiences and belief in gods, or the "mind-god" pretty interesting. The "mind-god" you describe sounds exactly like what current research is revealing about the human sub/unconscious mind with one major difference, the unconscious mind is extremely rational and logical and often provides the conscious mind answers and is responsible for some revelations. Illogical answers and fabrications are products of the conscious mind (that's not to say that people are aware that they're being irrational). Anyway, your ideas are interesting. Also, I'm not an expert in psychology or philosophy, I'm just some guy on the internet so take everything I say with a grain of salt. Read up on some current psychological studies in the area, I cant recommend it enough. The way that science is taking off with modern technology produces stuff that blows my mind just about every day.
We don't act like we have it figured out, we just KNOW we are smarter than 95% of the world because we KNOW that we don't have all the answers. We don't have all the answers, nor do we pretend to. We simply acknowledge the fact that nobody has a clue what really happened. Unlike what religious people do who claim, more so than atheists, that they have it all figured out. They have faith in their God, atheists have faith in their logic.
