Please critique my trampoline edit!

Hey everyone, i know there are a lot of threads like this, but i wanted to get some feedback on an edit that i made recently. As some background info, i made the edit using a Nikon D5100, which is unfortunately not my camera so i know very little about it (i know the basics of dslr cameras, but nothing more than that, as an example i learned how to actually record videos just before i started filming so any tips you guys have would be helpful). I also filmed it myself on a tripod which was tricky trying to focus so again any tips for that would be great. Lastly i edited it on imovie so the editing isn't that great either, and the movie looks much better in HD.

Your exposure seems a bit off, but this is tricky to control with a d5100. Get up close to what you want to expose for (you/trampoline) and lock the exposure (AE/L button). It's not your camera so everything else was fine filming wise.. For editing, you slowed everything down to much, that's why it's choppy. The D5100 is only capable of 30 fps video, meaning you can only slow it down 24fps at about 80% speed. Looks like you used ~60 or so. Twixtor is useful for the occasional slower shot, but please don't overuse it

thanks for the advice, i really apriciate it. As for the slow mo part, i thot that was just imovie that was making it a little choppy but i thought it was worth it cuz it seemed to fit better with the song. I understand what you mean when you say dont overuse it.

I don't know 100% what I'm talking about here but what I'm gonna say is mostly correct. 24fps is the slowest you can go without the human eye being able to notice individual frames. So if you're shooting at 30fps, you can only make your speed 80% before you start to notice the individual frames like in your video. Guessing that you used 60% speed, you'd be down to 18fps, which is easily noticeable. Slow mo does go well with the song, but in my opinion 80% is plenty slow, and you can use twixtor for parts where you reallly really want to go slower, but it really fucks up the image quality

ok cool, do you know if theres anyway i can change the frame rate im shooting at? like i said i dont know much about the camera, so i wouldn't know where to look on it for something like that.

The D5100 is only capable of 24 and 30 fps unfortunately. As far as I'm aware all Nikon DSLRs are currently only 24 or 30. To change it press menu, shooting menu, movie settings, and select whatever you like. I'd recommend 1280x720 30fps
