His determination is 2nd to none. He has the style, amplitude, and focus to Win!

If Kelly Slater can win 11 ASP World Surfing Champion titles, then Tanner Hall can win gold in Sochi. Like everybody else has said already, nobody's got the drive to win like Tanner. It'll definitely be an uphill battle, but if he sets his mind to it, he'll be on the podium.

This is my favorite run tanner has done.. no dubs but sw10 first hit?!? If he cleaned that up it would be next level cloud nine. The back to back to back 5s are the illest, especially the left 5 blunt!!! WTF!! This run is so underrated...

so with the athletes announced for the slopestyle in the Olympics, what can tanner do to get in to the pipe? i assume they will announce those soon and hes not going to be on it because he hasnt won anything recently. in the announcement for the slopestyle it seemed very centered around recent world championship and x games winners.

The team that's announced isn't necessarily the guys who are going to ski in Sochi in 2014; they're just the guys who, for right now, are going to get USSA backing/funding to train for the Olympics. Who actually gets to go will be determined by competition results down the line. If I understand it correctly.

32's still young, for any athlete being 32 wouldnt be an issue, thats still pretty young. if you stay in good shape like he does you can do this shit till your 50. if anything its an advantage, more experience, more mental toughness, maturity, and focus. really, he's more ready now than he ever has been in his career.

Theres no doubt in my mind that tanner will be competing at the highest level in pipe by then, but i feel like who ever wins will have the most sensational story, so if tanner gets some media hype on his recovery my money's on him

Have you seen the injuries that man has endured, just watching him jump on a trampoline makes my knee's hurt. Honestly, I don't think he will be able to compete just his age is going to be a limiting factor, doesn't matter how willful you are, if your body doesn't work you can't do much about it.

Well see though, gotta see him do a pipe run this year and then reassess

Yes he is a fukcing awesome inspirational rider who has made some of the best combacks ever in skiing but cmon. hes almost 30. you think torin, roland etc might have a bit of determination too?

yeah he has had some pretty bad injuries, i dont know how he is doing physically, and i dont know if his injuries are affecting him now. but any fit 32 year old will be able to handle the physical toll on their body as well as someone in their teens or 20's. its more a matter of if his injuries will be affecting him then. 32's still pretty much in your prime physically, especially if your an athlete like tanner.
but knowing tanner, he will work his ass off and train like crazy and will probably be able to take more than the 25 year olds he's gonna compete against. honestly if he doesnt screw his body up any more, he could do it again at 36. shit maybe even 40.

he wakes up and hits the gym and tramp everyday for hours with one of the top personal trainers in action sports

No. Just because you qualify does not guarantee a spot. there will likely be far more people that qualify then the number of spots on the USA.

I really dont think you guys understand how unlikely it is that tanner will make the olympic team. I love the guy, but he should focus on inspired projects and not halfpipe. He certainly is not one of the best USA pipe skiers right now, and the sport is progressing so damn fast. Tanner will need to push himself to his absolute limits to make it possible, and he will need to completely focus on pipe skiing and not projects like retallack. Tanners has had some impressive pipe skiing on the past, but those legs just arent what they used to be....

Kids like Torin will beat Tanner because they are already so far ahead of Tanner in ability, are so much younger, and are not injury prone. Why would team USA invest money and time into an injured, aging has-been when they have so many better options. The answer? They simply wont.


Hey guys, I have all the respect in the world for Tanner. He is a hero of mine, but the unfortunate reality is he will not compete in the olympics and he will certainly not win.


but go ahead tanner, prove me wrong, i would love to see it

he's 30, not fucking 80. that wont even be an issue. 30's still young, someone like tanner could do it at 45. the only reason people start feeling "old" or less physically fit at 30 is because they spent 5+ years sitting on their ass and working in an office every day. it only seems old cause our sport is so young, the oldest park skiers are just getting into their 30's now. in 10 more years just watch, we are gonna have people around 40 competing.

look at seth morrison, hes getting close to 40 and he still goes bigger than anyone else on snow. todd richards is like 47? and still goes huge, kelly slaters 40ish. michael schumacher is 42 and still does possibly the most physically demanding and most physically stressful sport in the world. really it just shows that as long as you stick to it age doesnt really matter. tanner at 32 will be nowhere close to too old to be competitive.

i not saying is isnt capble of making a comeback jeez, im saying he wont won the olypics, why are you all writting off the other guys? tanner would have to train up to their level in the pipe and then beat them too. 30 years old may not be time to rtire age but neither is early 20s, or 15.

being young helps a shitload, sure u can ski powder forever but not park, its so hard on the body especially the knees and ankles. How do you think Tanners knees and ankles are? I dont care how much physio u do, hes never gona get back the leg stregth and stability that he needs.

Tanner does not have the body to compete in the olympics. there is a good reason that it is very young people who do well in sports like park skiing and gymnastics, trust me.

i think your making a bigger deal out of his injuries than you need to. as far as i know they arent affecting him now, and if they are he's got 2 years to recover. and i dont see how he's injury prone...
hes not "aging" or a "has been"

He's shown in the past that when he puts his mind to something, he can completely dominate it. i dont see why he wouldnt be able to do it again, and do it even better.

i really dont see any reason why he shouldnt be able to do it. unless of course his injuries are worse than im thinking.

not gonna get in to the F1 vs other sports debate, if you dont understand why its too damn hard to explain. but im still going to say it is atleast one of the most overall physically demanding, maybe not THE most, its too hard to prove that.

brown, yeah, hes one of the best out there right now, but not THE best neither is torin. most of the park skiers out there right now are in their early and mid 20's. but i feel like thats more because people want to do other things with their skiing instead of just doing comps. everyone wants to win x games, and once they have done that, or done well, their focus usually goes to other things.
as far as who has the most talent as a skier, i dont think brown or torin are even in the top 10. and most of the best overall skiers out there now seem to be in their late 20's many in their 30's

again im not sure how his injuries are doing, but IF, they arent an issue, there is no reason why he couldnt compete and win.

I'd love to see T Hall and Dumont on the podium in Russia.

there's plenty of time (2.5 years) for T Hall to catch back up and dominate again. it's never been easier to train, both on and off the snow, then it is now. plus, no freeskier has had a better mind for competition than T Hall.

Dumont's easily a Top 3 pipe skier right now, and he's not going anywhere.

barring injury, I expect to see Dumont and T Hall on the US Team in 2014.

All the young bitch naysayers.

The man has insane talent and drive. While he got hindered by his injuries, that talent is next level, and he is working like a damn fiend. I wouldn't say he is a lock for a win (if your name isn't Shaun White, nothing is a lock), but I would certainly say, barring any other injuries, he would be total threat.

i really dont know why everyone thinks you need to be a young 20 something to win in the olympics. when you're someone as dedicated and focused as tanner, it doesnt matter. especially at only 32, 42 then yeah, it might make it tough, but not 32, late 20's and early-mid 30's is the prime age for athletes. plus i think people are underestimating the advantage he will have mentally.

Here's my point:

Let's look at other sports, skiing prime time for example aerials, wich is I think the closest thing to pipe we can look up to and is a bit more a mature sport than Freeskiing.

Here is the birthdate of Canadian team:
Steve Omsichl 1978
Kyle Nissen: 1979
Warren Shouldice: 1983

OK they are not the best I readed, but they are the top athletes of canada. wich makes em all around 30 years old.

So i'm saying: If tanner drop the backcountry much, and concentrate only and because only a pipe skier he can make it. Most of the sport you top around 30 years old, beiing 32 makes him in the top zone of that prime time. It could be his apogee. This is if he goes uninjured, and trains like a madman, and given m. Hall reputation we know he can pull this off... Atleast compete in the olympics, because a comp. is a comp. you never know what happens.


SO I'm sayinh Yes it's possible, but it will be a hard one to pull off!

exactly.. ive got a good friend whos a sports trainer/athletic trainer for sports teams and individuals. and he says your late 20's- early to mid 30's are the peak age for an athlete. its while your body is still at its peak physically, reflexes and everything are still at its peak, and before anything starts to go downhill, but mostly its the mental side that makes it prime age for athletes, you're not so young that you're pushing yourself too hard, psyching yourself out, making mistakes, etc.. you know your body, your ability, your limits, and you are at that point where you're between youth and the point where you start to get old, so you have the youthful determination and cocky "i can do anything" attitude, and you have the maturity and mental calmness of an older person, and none of the negatives of either youth or aging people, your right in the prime zone.
so really as long as those injuries dont hold him back, tanner should be in a better spot than anyone else.

With his interview on Jamaican National TV, his Inspired crew, reggae influences since day 1 it seems, why does everyone care about making the US National Team, winning Jamaican gold would be even more epic.

Nothing's ever for certain but I at the very least anticipate he will be competing at the 2014 Olympics, maybe not for USA though. He's a good podium contender and judging by those tramp edits, he's in pretty good shape. Look forward to seeing him on snow soon.
