Changing tripod heads?

I'll start off by saying this has been confusing which is why I've come to NS instead of using Google.

So basically a couple months ago I bought a tripod w/ a smooth pan-tilt head, but now that I'm getting a alittle more serious about filming the head is starting to be a problem. It's smooth but it has certain spots in the pan where it requires more force to pan and that ends up leaving jumps in my footage because of the change in speed and it looks so rough and overall it's un-acceptable.

I'm looking into buying a new head, but this is where I'm a little confused, I don't understand how "bowls" work. The current head i have just screws onto a flatform ontop of the legs and then its set, but it seems like not all tripods work that way and some heads only work with certain sets of legs.

My question is just what heads will work with my legs?

This isnt my tripod but this is the screw platform I'm talking about:

Any head will work, it's just that for bowl heads you will need to buy an adapter so it works on a screw on sticks.

Damn I really wish I could right now because I need cash, but a new head is going to be a Christmas/Birthday present and that's not for a while obviously.

But I suppose in the meantime I might as while try to decide what head to buy, I'm looking at a budget of about $150 and I realize that's not much so bare with me here. It needs to be a a pan-tilt head and it'd be better if I didn't have to buy an adapter, but if there's a really good cheap head then I'm willing to bump up my budget to include an adapter.

I bought a rocketfish tripod after all, it has a standard screw so I can use it for my slider

In case you missed my previous post, I'm looking for a a good, sturdy pan-tilt head for around $150.

701hdv is $150 on bh. Decent budget friendly tripod head for DSLR and light video cameras

Save your money and get a Libec ls22. Much better than the Manfrotto 701/501/503 and only $350 for the entire package. Legs are decent, but no worse than what you'll find from Manfrotto.
