SNOW is the first true freeride and freestyle game for skiers and snowboarders. Based on the free-to-play model, SNOW looks to restart the winter sports genre taking the player back to basics refining scale, physics and controls to capture the majesty of the mountain. SNOW is a game for riders, by riders.
SNOW will be released for free later this year and developed according to feedback from the community.
A quick post with some FAQ's that seem to get asked all the time. Maybe a mod can attach some to the OP or I'll just repost this every page, just because it's really annoying when this thread gets bumped to read the same stupid question for the fiftieth time. Thought I should point out that I have nothing to do with the dev time, so everything below is my understanding of the situation. I think it's almost entirely correct though.
Q: Will it come out for Mac/ when will it be out for Mac?
A: It's likely SNOW will come out for Mac in the future but SNOW do not control
when. SNOW is built using Cryengine, an engine that is currently only
compatible with windows. There have been rumours that Crytek are adapting
Cryengine for Mac, but I don't know any more about this.
Tl, dr: Mac could happen in the future, but not now.
Q: Will it come out for next gen?
A: SNOW has been announced for PS4, but there is no set timescale. It is
unlikely to happen until the game leaves beta, my guess is 2016 at the earliest.
Q: Can I play this on my mac?
A: Sort of. You can run Windows on your Mac in boot camp. I shall not tell you how to do this, use google. Virtual machines are inefficient.
Q: What system specs do I need?
A: From the steam page, minimum 2GHz dual core processor, 4GB RAM, lower-mid range GPU. SNOW will not run on computers using integrated graphics. You will get an error message and the game will fail to start. Steam is not idiot-proof and will not stop you buying the game. That is most macbooks and low-end laptops. Check before you buy, if you buy a game that doesn't work on your computer that's your fault and no-one elses.
I want to give you guys 15 bucks, but is there anything beneficial apart from getting two weeks early access and that helmet? I can wait for the closed beta.

Is there a way to get clothing without paying, like a way to earn in-game currency?
Can there be an option to pay once and never make another micro-purchase?
If I was presented with the option of paying £30, roughly the price of a new indie PC game of this scale; versus many small microtransactions I would pay to buy everything. If I wasn't given this option I'd probably spend less than £10 on the game.
I hate the microtransaction model with a passion - buying lots of cheap things feels more expensive than buying one expensive thing, even if it's cheaper.

Early access was pretty much what funded a lot of the game. I agree with what your saying but you have to look at it from a business standpoint. They are going to make it free to play. How would they get money to fund and keep working on the game? see what im sayin?
I know that the game has been advertised as free to play and it is kind of late to change that, but i am kind of disappointed in tha fact that after we paid money to get the game, we will have to pay more money to get the stuff that we already had in early acess just because the game became free for other people. That just doesn't make sence. Pretty much what this means is that we bought the game for ourselves to support this amazing project and then you are asking us to cover the cost of all of the free to play versions by buying more stuff. Ask the people who got it for free to pay for gear, not the people who actually paid money to play!!

This has always been our intention and we have done our best to communicate this across to our early supporters.
Those of you that have joined the Early Access program are getting exclusive items that are worth more than the price to get the game itself. Between the backer helmets and skis, and the founders set (all which are totally exclusive and unique to only those that joined the Early Access before today) you are getting an entire set of clothing that practically no one else will have.
We are looking into ways of letting users that want to just pay a flat fee do that, but this won't be ready by the time we launch the free-to-play portion of the game in a few weeks.
Free-to-play is a controversial subject because it does ask people to spend money or small things that often don't feel worth the cost. That being said what this also means is that you can spend money on ONLY things that you see value in. If you want to just do races, you can do that. If you want to dress in your favorite brands, you can do that instead. If we charged $60 for this like we would if we released this as a pay-to-play title, you'd get what we make available regardless of if you like the content or not.
What this also means is that we can continue to deliver new content all the time. We will be adding the latest season clothing and equipment from all of our partners (which are now over 12), partnering with event organizers (like B&E, JOI and many more) to bring the latest slopestyle, big air and other courses to the game and creating our own unique content new every year. This simply couldn't work if we just asked you to pay for the game once.
We are doing everything we can to look out for you guys and make sure you're getting the best deal possible. All I ask is that you trust us in our decision and think positively when you join the Closed Beta in a few weeks time.

This idea is like a dead horse that is continuously being beaten by F2P developers. A lot of us just want the whole game, and we'll pay more for that than we will for tiny little bits of it. I don't care if we won't like the content, we still at least want to try it. I see value in everything.
I, and many other people, would give you more money in a one-off payment than I will through micro-transactions. I'm not sure about NS, but it's come up on r/pcmr several times and this is the general consensus.
It's not that I disagree with running F2P and microtransactions, I think they can work together. Just give us the choice.

I would honestly be down to pay £40 for the game once off. The game is totally worth that to me, whereas if I were to buy just the outerwear I want, I would get max £20 worth of stuff.
Either way, I think an important question to ask is will there be an advantage to players who pay? Ie faster skis, faster spins better bindings etcetc.

This was my fault for looking at this then, I don't regret my decision at all- I just hope that the benefits of the ski gear and clothing isn't so cheesy that I won't use them. You guys have been doing a great job and I can't wait till the closed beta!
Items are purely cosmetic and will not provide you with any advantage in gameplay. This is purely so you can individualize yourself and dress how you want.

I can understand what you are saying, but i look at a game like Minecraft which is a one time payment and is always adding new stuff, and it seems to work pretty well for them too. I know that SNOW Is much harder to develop and is marketable to a smaller number of people, but the idea of bringing people in with the lure of free new stuff and a one time cost i think would make the game more marketable and popular.

Well they did say they are viewing it as an alternate option. Maybe a one time, in game store payment, equal to the usual price of a comparable game to unlock everything, forever? I think something in the region of £40 would be good, ie like 60 bucks or so. What do you guys think? Maybe make it slightly cheaper than buying all of the clothes one by one.

I wouldn't buy the clothes one by one, I'd spend at most £10 through microtransactions, no more. I hate games with microtransactions, I'm only making an exception for SNOW because skiing.
Also I just got BETA. It looks really good and the mechanics are a bit better, but there are 100x as many bugs as there were and it kinda ruins the experience. Some of them I'm ok with, like the way the skis seem to float slightly below the level of the snow most of the time; but some are really annoying. I'm talking mainly about draw distances.
The default draw distance is WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY too short, and the models beyond the draw distance are the kind I'd expect for entities 1km away, rather than 10m. A result of this is you get objects appearing as you get close to them (the pole at 10 o'clock from the park spawn), or only seeing loose frameworks of buildings until you've pretty much skied into them.
Also can we please have the tab shortcut back for respawn, or has it moved? I pretty much instinctively go for it and having to press escape then reach for the mouse to respawn is really annoying.
I feel kind of cheated that i payed 15 dollars for early access and then when beta comes out i don't have one single credit to buy anything in the store

I think its R to kill yourself, and then just hit enter to spawn again
