Urban Anger Management

So noticed a trend in ski movies, especially this year. Urban riders had more shots of throwing skis and bashing them everywhere, do their sponsors not care? I get the frustration of not getting the rail or shot you're looking for, honestly, if I was in charge of managing a team (or any other upper level position in the company, I would make sure people set a good image as a face of a company. Im a little in shock actually. An equivalent to me would be everytime Micheal Vick threw some shit pass, he wouldn't storm off and smash his helmet, not to mention how many destroyed helmets he'd have this year. Am I the only one who thinks this way?

i remember reading a long time ago that snowboard movies include shots of landing on concrete, and treating the boards like crap, because it encouraged people to wear out their gear faster = buy more gear.

Im not against it, it shows the rider as a person like anybpdy else who gets angry and not just a shot producing robot. Also iit makes people aware of how much effort that went into getting the urban shot and so therfore increasing the respect for gts-ing.

I have been thinking the same thing lately, I just don't get it. I understand the rails these urban riders hit are hard and when they fall it must hurt like a bitch, but really? Destroy 700$ pairs of skis? I will treat um better, give um to me! haha

I hate you OP, this isn't fucking football skiers can do whatever the fuck they want. Stop acting like the world stops turning if a skier isn't a glowing example of humanity for 5 minutes.

And have you ever seen any skateboard video ever? They make skiers tantrums look like pussy shit.

Are you fucking 12? The truth is skiers cant do what ever the fuck they want, they are generally (speaking of big names here...) profesional athletes, and being a good skier isnt the only thing thats gonna get you sponsored. You gotta have a good attitude too. I fully unterstand the frustration, ive definatly thrown my ski around and broken poles on rails im pissed off at but some of the shit the boys were doing this years is really not on when your a professional athlete

Bleh you probably peed your pants when Ahmet said Jon's clothes were gay too. Professionalism Athlete? They smoke pot and party all the time. Nobody cares about scenes in ski movies were there smoking but when someone throws a ski they instantly become "unproffesionl"

This, I made some friends watch Weight and they didn't understand the hours of bailing involved in the shots until they watched CRiley's part and the Crash part right after. It may be quite obvious for you, but for beginners, they often think those urban shots are greased straight away or after a few hits.

No i honestly dont care when ahmet said that, i agree with him, i know they smoke weed and party all the time, they are certainly not role model citizens, i've witnessed it forst hand. i dont care about that either. but purposly destroy a product that a sponser has given you for free, i mean cmon man.

Ironically Shea Flinn murders like 4 pairs of skis in last years meat head movie. Why do you care what they do with their skis? They belong to them, and I doubt the sponsor even remotely gives a shit.

We participate in a sport where if you slip off a rail or undershoot a jump the consequences are often severe. The caliber of people that enjoy that level of risk are not really people that practice discretion. I't makes them relatable to me but I do understand the argument that there does need to be some sense of control.

Probably not, and thats true, i suppose they can do what they want with their skis, but im just saying that if i was given the oppourtunity to ride for K2 or any other ski company ide respect their shit. Im entitled to my opinion, as are you and as is OP

showing the anger and frustration that leads up to breaking skis or whatever adds a lot to the movies, i think. we're all skiers and we know how frustrating it can be, so it's cool to see we can all relate to that.

Yea I thought it was kind of dumb seeing them flip shit on everything, but then I watched the bonus from weight and now understand it better. I can understand the throwing a ski at a rail, but full out curb stomping your binding is a little much in my opinion.

I think it's more interesting that almost no one (with the exception of a few people in this thread) cares if someone throws a tantrum doing urban, while if Simon Dumont is unhappy with his competition run there'll be several threads calling him a bitch. Just an observation...

with sooo many variables its easy to get really frustrated. Cam flipping out in Weight has to be the worst ive seen. But on the other side of the spectrum Shay Lee kept a really good attitude after "120" tries and all he had to say was "is that why im so tired"?

except that this isn't a fucking shut up & listen to your coach activity..... I don't mean to knock you in particular, but one of the things I'm really starting to hate about freeskiing blowing up is the influx of jock-minded fuckwads who think that skiers have to maintain some kind of squeaky-clean image. it's SKIING.... there is no point, and it's basis is fun - competitions are fucking dumb and so are pre-fabricated images for athletes.

have u ever spent all day hiking trying to get a trick and it just doesnt come together for you? its annoying as fuck and when you are on camera trying to get shots for a deadline and u keep hiking and bailing and hiking and bailing you are tired and your body hurts and you tell yourself this time im gunna get it for sure then you fall again and all you wanna do is punch a baby or throw your skis around

Wouldn't it be logical to be blaming the production companies who actually do something with the footage? Not all sponsors are looking for well mannered gentleman to represent their product. Companies with hood images love that gangsta shit.

I think that the anger also shows a passion for what they are doing. I would rather see angry emotion than no emotion.

1. pro s that do a lot of urban are gonna end up going through a ton of skis no matter what
2. sponsors are aware that pro s go through a lot of skis. and they don't really care
3. sometimes taking out anger while doing urban is fully necesssary and its just part of the game
4. OP has never done any difficult urban skiing
5, sponsors want to associate their image with talented, popular, passionate and progressive skiers. which happen to be the same skiers who lose their temper once in a while
