Heavenly has a pipe cutter, and a place to put a pipe, but yet we have no half pipe.

And well, i want one.

Heavenly has 4 parks when in full operation, but no pipe. Take out park, put pipe in.

and yet my little shit of a hill with barely any jumps thinks its necessary to take up 60% of our park with a pipe, not that i don't love pipe but only <10 know how to even air on it and the space/snow could be put to such better use /rant

Pipe is super fun I liked it for you Heavenly looks like it has some sweet rails/taps but no pipe that sucks yo. Hope you can get one this year!

It's an 18ft pipe cutter. I would ride pipe if Heavenly would cut one again. Still Sierra is the only south shore resort with a pipe. But my pass is no longer good there.

Well, heavenly cuts 80 foot booters, and remodels them at least 2-3 times a year. they are closed 9/10 times. i've seen in my 6 years at heavenly about 30 people hit those jumps. The ROI isn't the best for those either.

Instead of listening and cutting a step up, or a halfpipe which would be awesome, they don't.


But i understand ya. When the heavenly pipe was still open, it was a taco, and terrible. But i don't understand why they don't bring it back better then ever. The heavenly park crew pushes to be the best they can, but with no pipe on the south shore i don't see how that can be.

My local hill had a superpipe, and let me tell you I think they made the best decision ever when they got rid of it this year. Way to much effort, not very much use, and takes up space that could be used to build more aforementioned 80 ft booters.

Just a couple random thoughts:

1) That's an 18' cutter. Zaugg just came out with a 22' cutter, and that's not a new one.
2) Vail Resorts is investing in a 22' pipe at Northstar already.
3) Squaw is also putting in a 22' pipe this year.
4) The minimum budget for a pipe is somewhere near $100K. And at a major resort, with considerable maintenance and the possibility of rebuilds, you're looking into the multiple $100K's

Yeah I liked the paged but like these others guys saying, pipes are a huge expense, and get very little use. But hopefully you get one so you can get some pipe time.

are there any of the global pipe cutters in the states? its what weve got in whistler now after the olympics, i really like it but ive never skied any other 22 foot before

If you guys are complaining about your park, ours at cascade in wiscompton got downgraded soo much. we had the best super park, pipe, and resort in the midwest... now we have a mediocre one.....

I know we can like pipe dream up why pipes are so expensive, but really $100k to maintain these things? What makes 2 piles of snow so expensive? So you make the piles of the snow, that could be a little expensive, but maybe I should google this....
there might be some answers there

Probably not gonna ever get the pipe back at heavenly. Their park crew should just build all step up's for their jumps. Last spring, they had the best step up on ante up. That was probably their best jump ever created.

electricity for snowmaking pumps
electricity for snow guns
diesel for snowcat to build pipe (you're looking at 40+ hours just to push/build walls of pipes, before even starting cutting)
maintenance costs for snowcats (park in general is very harsh on cats)
maintenance costs for cutter
hourly wage for operator (pipe cutters are some of the most experienced [highest paid] operators on the hill, plus, you're paying for a second cat to act as the winch anchor)
diesel for daily pipe maintenance (plus the anchor cat)

my hill had a pipe. then the fuckers on the park crew ruined it cause they have no idea how to groom it.
so they leveled the dirt. now we have no pipe. they make a QP in the park with it though.

water, snomax, electric, fuel, excess piping, man hours to run everything, cat maintenance hours, summer vegetation maintenance, proper runoff drainage and added insurance it costs $6,000,000 annually to properly maintain a competition pipe venue.

I love pipe, wish i spent more time in it, definatly something you need to do alot of to get good at it, can be pretty intimidationg. You should learn to cut a pipe, mayb you'll understand why they dont hav one

hold up there buddy. Are you saying that they build step downs or tables? The insurance for park features are as follows (from highest to lowest) Tables, step ups, step downs, pipes. If you're resort is building step downs before step ups, they've got some problems. Pipes are a major pain in the ass for any park crew not to mention the fact that less than 2% of the patrons actually ride them properly. They are also a huge insurance cost (almost the same price as insuring a large featured park by itself, from what my manager told me). Not to mention that if your building a 22' pipe without walls being in place prior, you are using 60+% more snow than the rest of the entire park. In short,



MAJOR COST of 22' outweighs not having 22' by about 300%.

Just an update, it's been confirmed that Heavenly Ski Resort IS CUTTING A MUTERFUCKING PIPE THIS YEAR.

The pipe at my home mountain wasn't used a lot, so they downsized it from 18 to 12 feet. I've never been big on pipe (or park skiing for that matter) but I actually almost like the smaller pipe because its easy to just mess around on.

if they had a 12' or even an 18' pipe cutter, I'd say they should do it, but a 22' pipe takes a ton of snow/space
