Is it possible to avoid buying a pass?

Has anyone ever tried avoiding ticket checks, or making a fake pass or something. A friend of mine once claimed to have used a lanyard with nothing on the end and pretending he had lost it whenever he was checked.

At my local hill, they only check on the bottom lift. So I've gone up the lift with 1 friend, skied down with the pass to give to another

yes. Its called hiking the park. I do it every friday night. They cant kick you out for not having a lift ticket, cuz you arent using the lifts.

idk if this has been said yet but it takes a lot of money to run a ski resort, id rather support them so they can keep running. i ski at a smaller resort though

This is where it's at. Any mountain that works like this is legit.

alternately, if you're a park rat, go to a resort with a towrope/tbar/jbar in the park, and glove the pass with a buddy to get up the first lift to the park, and then just lap park all day. Alot of those park lifts are never attended, or at least definitely not pass checked.

I would be very careful of this , many resorts that scan passes/lift tickets have timers bulit into their respective lift scanners for this very reason. Meaning if a chairlift take roughly 10 minutes to get you to the top, the lift ticket you scanned will not be good for ten minutes or so. Otherwise your ticket/pass will scan invild. Im sure not all resorts do this but just a heads up.

try going nigh skiing(if you have night skiing at your mountain) and buy a pass of someone thats leaving... you wouldnt beleive how many people buy all day passes for just goin skiing for a couple hours

Don't be cheap and buy a pass.
The resorts give you awesome skiing potential, maintain the piste and park and they get you up there with their lifts. All you have to do is pay a small fee in return.

And in America passes are pretty cheap, an Epic pass is just $669 an season pass for my area (Portes des Soleil) in the French Alps would cost me 1100 dollars.

Don't be a loser, just pay.

i work at my hill and rock salomon, orage, fulltilts, jibberish, etc. I have a radio (usually chest mounted or with the remote on my shoulder), i have been skiing there for 12 years, i am carrying rolls of nets, gates, and equipment up the hill more often then not. but still that one time i wait in line like everyone else, the lifties that know me on a first name basis since i was 4 ask for my pass. almost every fucking time. i ski there all weekend, every weekend. its not that they check everyone, they single me out for my pass at least 5 times a day. i duno if its the xxl swag or they plot against me. if you dont look like you would sneak up a lift then they may not check you.

buy a pass OP, it is possible to sneak up the lift but just dont do it. i know people who have gotten in serious shit for that.
