Is it possible to avoid buying a pass?

Has anyone ever tried avoiding ticket checks, or making a fake pass or something. A friend of mine once claimed to have used a lanyard with nothing on the end and pretending he had lost it whenever he was checked.

You'd have to be a pretty shitty resort/hill if they just let your through every time because you "lost your pass".

I heard a story about some dudes that built a hut on the backside of a local ski area way out of bounds. They would tour up there on friday afternoon after work, then ski free on the backside where they dont check passes all weekend.

There are a few resorts that rent the mountain. Meaning you can ski for free but you have to pay to use the lifts. Just run up the hill after each run. It won't cost you anything, you won't have to wait in line and you'll be getting a killer work out at the same time.

Just wander around the parking lot asking people who are leaving for their pass, offer them 5 bucks or a beer or something for it. My buddy does that a lot and it usually works. Obv it kind of sucks when it doesn't though.

This tends to work better on storm days, but go to where the gapers hang out when it's dumping and they don't want to be out. Ask them for their pass because gapers don't tend to go out when it's puking. It works fairly well, and just say the weather's going to be like that all day.

Even better when a huge snowstorms come through and all the gapers, (and some other people) and in a desperate scramble to avoid being stuck on the mountain. Best thing that's ever happened to me. 3 day's free skiing and some seriously epic conditions.

the glove trick:

one goes up the lift, the other hikes 100m up,
the one on the lift stashes his pass in his gloves, drops the glove by "accident" other picks it up, run that system all day on different lifts!

go to the front desk and say you lost your lift pass / have it on your other coat. at my hill they give you a free day pass

They usually don't check passes at my hill,but when they do, they won't let you on the lift unless you have the pass on you.

Well at my local small ski hill if your a regular thy normally don't check, but at the bigger one that I go to for our school club I just use someone else's pass from a past year and no one ever says anything

my home mountain never change the colour and the design of their pass. so each years I use the same pass.

just buy the pass.  if you ski more then 20 times..    you are skiing for free  in most cases..

 i have to go up 14 times to pay mine. off.  its worth it.. dont be a dick. dont buy any thing else while you are up there

how about you actually pay for the pass to help support the mountain you are using. the mountain doesnt operate for free, so neither should you.

But seriously, if you want to ski for free, hiking is your best bet. I'm not sure about PC's (your home mountain correct? idk about Albania...) policy or enforcement, but at my local mountain they're pretty lenient about hiking.
You didn't steal your skis or help your friend steal his skis, right? It's not any different with ski areas. If you cheat the system, you are stealing. No one likes people who steal, especially someone that steals from the ski industry and talks about on a skiing website.

I have to go something like 13 times to pay for my pass. Idk about you but i ski about 50-70 days a year. In my mind the money is well spent supporting an awesome area that has provided me with unreal experiences.

the more and more people who dont pay for passes the shittier the features will get. would you want a 20ft pipe at ur moutain, well it costs 100k+ to maintain each year, maintaining all the features is verry costly too. knowing ski resort owners there isnt much of a problem with cheap asses who wont pay for a pass. but if you really cant afford one, just go to a non ski resort and make your own features

This. Who pays for skis anymore anyways?

Try stealing some skis and selling them to pay for a pass. I heard a lot of people are doing this now.

About 20 years ago my dad would get up an hour early at Whistler and skin up to where they didn't used to check for passes, and cut in and ski the upper mountain of Whistler for free all day. Pretty awesome if you ask me.

When I got fired from my mountain, I used to skin up to the upper lifts and just lap those all day. Gets you in damn good shape.

The reason the tickets are so high is because the mountain needs them to be so that they can keep it running. Yeah, it sucks to pay that much for a ticket, but it would suck WAY more if the mountain went out of business.

just get to know the liftys, i lost my employee pass in december last year about two days after they printed it for me. from december till closing day i rode for around 100 days without getting a single pass check. and a week and a half of that was while i was banned from the mountain because i got fired, but then i got rehired.


thats all possible because i am on a first name basis with all my lifty homeboys. like "yo what up tommy!"
