Was curious as to what these were, so i googled it. Arent these just long bar mounts with weights to dampen the movments of the operator? Or are there like rubber dampeners and shit that im not seeing. Would seem preeettty easy to fabricate.
I'm no pro videographer or nothing, but I have noticed that when hand bombing with a gopro, it looks like I've done a bunch of crack. You think if I rigged up a micro glidecam, it would work at taking that away some? Theres no rubber dampeners on a glide cam is there, its just the counterweights that provide the dampening? I find these so fascinating. I seen archers use the big stick weights to improve their shot, and it looks like it helps alot.
Glidecam Pro isn't as precise as the Glidecam HD. The HD is much faster/easier to balance, and it allows you to balance it better than you can with the Pro.
i think you have the concept of a glidecam wrong. basically, the whole thing is a lever, balanced perfectly on the handle, with the fulcrum being able to twist in any direction without affecting the balance of the camera. it's not easy to fabricate, due to the precision needed. it would be easy to build a pole mount for your gopro, which i highly recommend
Correct. The idea isn't to make it bottom heavy (that means its incorrectly balanced). The idea is to make it perfectly balanced 360˚ around on the x, y, and z axii. Because there is practically zero friction whatsoever, even having it a millimeter off an any way will fuck up the whole thing. This is why glidecams are so incredibly difficult to learn, and why I never suggest them to people who are new to filmmaking.
Thanks for helping me understand this setup, not that im gonna be buying one anytime soon, its just for other things i do, the mechanics involved in a glidecam could be the solution for a problem, not that there are any.
Totally agree with the top comments, I'd like to see someone accutally operationg the glidecam setup, soooo smooth. These bros could probably be banging on skis to.
