good example of this, one of my good friends, moved here from brazil at 17, had absolutely no money, never made it past 9th grade, worked his ass off for 10 years, while spending 30,000 dollars trying to become a U.S. citizen, which he's still working on. now he owns his own business and makes over 150,000 a year and hes only 27.

you can become extremely well off from absolutely nothing. it takes hard work, which 99% of the population or "the 99%" isnt willing to do.

Those are facts im not going to get the income of Richard Branson's family when he was born because the exact numbers are kept private and aren't revealed. you are asking for something that cant be given. Anecdote - The expression anecdotal evidence refers to evidence from anecdotes. Because of the small sample, there is a larger chance that it may be true but unreliable due to cherry-picked or otherwise unrepresentative of typical cases.[1][2]


My point was individuals do not represent a group. Sure there are nice rich guys. There are also the Bernie Madoffs of the world. Not saying either represents the whole group, but until someone (anyone? please?) does a study on old money vs new money, we wont really know.


That being said, you also have to take into account what you are born into. Some kid born into a middle or upper class family quite simply has more opportunities than someone born in the hood. Neither chooses too, but one can succeed far more easily than the other. The upper class kid, regardless of what his parents hand him, still lives in most likely a better school district, has access to better supplies and materials, has a family that most likely can and will spend the time to help him with his schoolwork (parental involvement is a HUGE part of a students school success). Meanwhile the kid born poor lives in a terrible school district, with lousy resources and supplies. His parents (if he has any) probably are working late to try and put food on the table, so they aren't involved in his school work at all. Sure the richer kid may work hard for his success, but the poor kid has to work twice as hard, through no fault of his own.

And yes, I realize this doesn't represent all of either group either, and is a generalization that I was just chastising you about, but just something to think about.

and for every richard branson or steve jobs, how many casualties of capitalism are there? you can't look at one person, say that they beat the odds, and now base a model around that person and claim that the system is fair and just cause it happened to benefit one other person. that's the problem with capitalism. it gives people the illusion of equality and the hope of someday having a better life when it really just sucks every last drop out of you to benefit the upper 0.5% of the population.

Capitalism isn't the problem. We haven't even had true capitalism anytime recently. The free market produces growth and opportunity.



this is farther than what most of them are asking but lets say you go all the way to communism. Everybody works, everybody gets gets what they need, everybody is happy. The problem is the lack of reward for working hard. If I work hard at my job and I'm great at it, I'm not going to be thrilled that bob who's lazy and sucks at his job is getting paid just as well as me. There is no incentive to work hard.




In true free market capitalism, you really see the ability to go from nothing to something if you work hard. Of course some people are in better spots and have more opportunities. It's not their fault their parents weren't successful. Hopefully they appreciate what they have and aren't stuck up assholes but that's different. What a lot of people don't realize is that government intervention has fucked a lot of shit up.

Everybody blames capitalism for the problems that were caused by government intervention. That's ignorance. Look at everyone who blamed capitalism for the recession. People like schiff and ron paul were talking about the coming disaster way before hand, nobody wanted to listen. Panels of experts on the mainstream news networks actually laughed at them. Then everything they say actually happens, but the public forgot that they had said anything in the first place. It's amazing how stupid people can be.

If you're going to hate a system, you should at least understand what system is in place not just assume it's this or that.


Look how many people have become dependent on government funds. The welfare abuse is a great example. Keep giving people money and it will get abused, people will get hooked for life.  What may sound like a good thing is actually hindering people and so many times their too ignorant to even notice.


If people really want an economy that's doing well they should support the scale back of government. People just assume that the government is the cure all for everything. They just assume that if theres still a problem, that means the government isn't involved enough yet. It sounds good to an extent but it doesn't work.

The government has fucked up the economy pretty massively. Look at assholes like woodrow wilson.  People's assumption that the government is inherently good is fucking ignorant. The government is what put us in this situation, not a corporation. If anything you should be thankful for any corporations still manufacturing things in the US. If we would stop with the ridiculous intervention there would be more incentive to bring more jobs back to America.





Just saying. People that rant about capitalism being shitty because of this mess are ignorant. We don't have true capitalism now. At least find the root of the problem if your going to protest about it.

That's what this protest is about. You're unreal. Are you saying they should get rid of taxes on people with money and big corporations? Your saying they shouldn't help people with programs like welfare? you know that some people actually need that shit. Yes people abuse it, people abuse everything, but a lot of people actually need it to feed their families. If you take away any aid, it's the children that are going to suffer.

How can you act like everybody can go from rags to riches no problem if the kids are gonna starve to death before they can even get to highschool.

well obviously the big corperations hardly employ anyone in the us???? The number one FORTUNE GLOBAL 500 COMPANY IS WALMART. Of walmarts 1.6 million employees, 1.3 of them are EMPLOYED IN THE US. so yeah im joking.... lol dumbass

pretty ridiculous how stupid people are being in this thread. The only person i have actually had a good reasoning with is ben. And to answer the question of how big corporations generate jobs is that they wouldn't exist right now if they didn't. If they kept growing and growing and never employed new people to fill the positions, they need since they expanded. the company would fail. They use the money to expand and branch out. When they branch out they create jobs because their company is now bigger and needs more employees. Thus, corporations create jobs by growing with their income and for some reason all these stupid people want to tax them a lot more so they wont have the money to create these jobs and pay their wages.

How about teaching lower class people about safe sex and parenthood planning instead of trying to offer their kids breaks once they are born.

You have to try and stop this sort of thing at the root of the problem. Which is why it blows my mind when people are in support of cutting funding to planned parenthood.

Dude are you kidding... You might not like what Walmarts impact on small businesses in small towns but you cannot argue that they don't help millions of families survive. They pay there workers extremely well compared to competitors and the possibility of working up to manager positions or above is so good compared to some companies. My friend has worked there for 2 years no degree and is a shift manager now and makes 20$ an hr You sound like your just parroting anti Walmart documentaries. I bet you the 1.3m employees would disagree that it's worse than being unemployed? Shit you should get a job there. Since you claim "you can't find anything" except in summer and winter. I bet they would hire you year round but your probably to good for Walmart arnt you?

Also live over an hour drive form the nearest walmart, and fuck that place. Always low prices regardless of the quality or the standards we have here.


You want to sell a product at walmart. The cheapest you can make that hoodie is 10 bucks, they won't buy it unless you can do it for 5. So now you have to cut the quality of the product and find a cheaper means of manufacturing. That's how walmart stays in business.

I don't see how my eating habits play into this at all.

I buy them every once in a while because they are good, cheap, and convenient. I will pay the extra little bit for convenience.

I am sure this is how a lot of people feel. Why take the extra time and money to try something new that you might not like when you can just keep eating what you already enjoy. This is the kind of thing Walmart profits from.

People should try new things every once in a while and not buy veggies or fruits from Walmart because they fuck farmers over hardcore.

But why pay an extra 30 cents on that pack of Cheez-its at your neighborhood food store?

Walmart does a great job at providing people with what they want. If there wasn't a demand they would go out of business.

dawg thats the point of capitalism... just be glad you didnt live before the Sherman anti-trust act because things were a hell of a lot worse back then for small businesses. The whole point of capitalism is laissez-faire and competition of businesses. It is not big coorperations that make it the most difficult for small buisnesses to succeed, most of it has to do with government One example is the EPA. It has a book of rules so thick (if building a new oil refinery for example), that no oil corporation has even attempted to build a new one since 1973! Sound like walmarts fault??

We need the epa to protect the environment though. Sometimes it's a pain in the ass but I don't want our country to end up some polluted shithole.


Also maybe if we started to use real alternative energy we wouldn't still be so dependent on oil which we get form other countries that were at war with half the time.
