I was wandering what would be a good pair of binding i could get for my ak jj's i was looking at the Rossi FKS 180's or some marker bindings. What do you guys think!
Well what din do you ride at that would help. FKS are not the best option for powder as they can be hard to get into in soft snow. Also if you break a brake it would be very costly.
Jesters, STH's or peaks would all be good. If money is no option and you want a binding to last forever get a STH 16 steel, if you can ride the din range.
Ok well you will clearly need a higher Din Range. I currently ride at 12 and use the STH 16. I love the binding, the adjustable toe piece lets you realy lock in the boot. I never suffered any pre realease and they look like new after 80 days. I have also had jesters previous to STH. They were good, but self adusting bindings like the jester always feel less secure to me. I have only used the Peak 12 but they felt good if a little heavy. The FKS as I said are good in the park but not so much in fresh snow (in my opion).
The STH 16 steel as I said before is an option but currently the only salomon sponsered athletes using them are cody and seth. So if you ride as hard as seth get those they will lsat forever. I was going to get a pair but there pretty much sold out all ready, so you may need to look around.
I have been riding the FKS 180XXLs for a while now and I have been extremely impressed. They are by far the most durable bindings I have ever owned. Another perk is the low ride height. They do get clogged up with snow quite easily but if your willing to deal with this they are well worth it.
This is the biggest piece of bull shit outside of FD I have ever seen gain traction.
Why the fuck would you disregard what is simply the best skiing binding of all time because you are a bitch when it comes to stepping into you skis. I have been using the look pivot binding on my powder skis for the last 8 years, I seem to manage to get them every time.
The look pivot (Pivot 14, Pivot 18, FKS 140, FKS 180) is quite simply the best alpine binding on the market. It is laterally stiff, allows a more natural flex of the ski, provides incredible shock absorption, and the most travel out of any binding on the market. Skiing a different alpine binding is just plain stupid. Especially for a bitch (and unrealistic) reason like 'hard to get into in powder.'
If you want to ski salomon, tyrolia or marker, that is your business, but I will continue to mount P18s on every single ski I own (non touring)
^ awsome mate thats your opion on FKS's, but I find them hard to get into in powder and they do not feel any better then a STH 16 or Peak 18, so why would I choose a binding thats hard to get into when there are others which work just as well?
I really dont understand this blind love of FKS and the hate anyone who says there not the best binding in the world, gets. Also why would you still make a binding that you can not easily change the brakes on, any way thats anouther thread. Overall enjoy your FKS's mate ill stick with other bindings.
^ lol you prove my point perfectly, as soon as you see someone not loving FKS you jump in and argue, why? If you can give usefull info on the bindings do it but why respond with somthing which gives no info. Do you punch shop techs in the face if they recomend any thing other then FKS?
^ so when was the last time you used an STH 16, Peak 18 or jester Pro. Pretty much all those bindings work and feel the same, but FKS are slighty harder to get into and also harder to replace the brakes on when they break. So to give the op all the facts I think its inportant to give him the information and let him make his own mind up. FKS are a great binding but there is nothing about them which makes them better then other top bindings and for me there are small anoying things which make them a less ideal choice.
But all this is just opinion so best bet for the OP is try out the bindings and see which you like the best.
If your riding a din of 13 and don't know what bindings to buy by now then your pretty stupid. There are hundreds of threads on this.
You cant go wrong really with any of the higher end bindings, some are preferred to others. I prefer my FKS to the Jesters I have but I'm not that bothered, only ones I havnt ridden are STH16 but would happily mount them on my skis. If anything I would say Jesters are the bottom of the pile but still do fine.
Find a decent pair of bindings for cheap and worry more about going skiing.
Ok so pretty much the reason for this thread was to see if i should keep my FKS 180s or sell them make a profit and buy another binding. The company i bout my shit from sent me the wrong binding and they sent me the FKS. Now other question is the FKS 180 has a 115mm brake and i just got the AK JJs which is 120 under foot. Now would my local shop be able to bend out the break enough to make it fit right or am i going to have to buy a bigger brake?
The widest brake that a FKS/Pivot comes with is 115mm. They will hardly need to be tweaked to fit on the AK's and will work just fine. It should take any shop tech about 30 seconds to do.
