if you feel like coming to canada, we have several good schools in BC and several ski mountains within a 3 hour drive, one of which being whistler, plus we have sun peaks, big white, white water and silverstar if u feel like a road trip

For a more in detail answer.

MSU is a really sick school. I love it here. The atmosphere, the vibe. Such an outdoorsy place, with skiers everywhere which Bridger Bowl and Big Sky close by. Good programs here, Engineering program is top notch if that your thing, but there is a decent film program here from what I have heard, and other things like that, and I just heard through the grapevines the Business College got a 25 Million Dollar Donation so they are probably getting a new building.

Campus wise, its a very nice campus, its not to big and easy to walk around on, it takes about 10-15 minutes to cross campus. The SUB is nice, and the building are quite nice as well. With decent class sizes.

Another thing is the dorms I like quite well. they're not a bad place to live. The 3 tower dorms are probably the best to fit your needs. Roskie is the kinda skier/smoker dorm, south is just plain dirty and norths elevators are less dependable then an Argentinian bus driver but overall not a bad place to live

Bozeman and the people here are amazing, so many skiers, outdoorsmen and just plain nice people live here.

Overall if you are interested come to a MSU friday and check things out here, but look what major you might be interested in before you visit.

Just moved out of the Midwest into Breck and im going to CMC, Probably one of the better decisions i've made. Im saving money compared to my hometown university, getting the same credits, and living in the mountains. Its a win win.

I was in your place this year. I'm looking to go into engineering and here's the place I've applied to: U of Portland, Utah, Montana State, Gonzaga. All of those are In my opinion great schools. I woulda applied to Boulder but the huge party scene was a dealbreaker for me, I'm looking to go to a college to get a degree, not be drunk or be around drunk people 24/7 (not to mention the tuition).

Other school's I'd look into include UBC, UVM, OSU Cascades, Western Washington, Washington, Denver, CMU (if your grades aren't good), colorado state, and the list could go on forever. It also depends where your grades/scores are at when the time comes to apply.

Also, not to thread jack, but is anyone here a M.E. student/grad at MSU? I wanna go to ski but I'm concerned about their departments rigor... I'm also considering film school there if any grads wanna sway me.

2.5 hours from the South Bay? what secret road do YOU know of?

I grew up in the East Bay Area, it took me no less than 2.5 hours to get to Donner Summit/Dodge Ridge/Kirkwood every time... and thats with clear roads and shit.

Santa Clara is at best 3.5-4 hours with all the travel involved. It's maybe 3 from Dodge Ridge.

Still tolerable, but 2.5 is fucking loony haha

if you actually care about going to the school with the best academic reputation, that is also close to skiing, you should be looking at UW, and UC Davis.

HOWEVER, a schools academic reputation isnt really very important unless its a top school like ivy league, stanford, cal etc. Pick the school that will best fit your personality, and where you feel the most comfortable.

Once you get to college keep your grades up(GPA matters mostly for grad school, not neccesarily all that much for jobs as long as it isnt under a 3.2), get involved with leadership roles in clubs, and get to know your proffs really well because they can really help you find a job.

the biggest benefit of going to a traditional college is the social education that it gives you. so make sure you dont miss out on that aspect.

Fuck all that high reputation bullshit...

Go to most big schools out there... look at the class size, and look at who you're actually being taught by.

Large research schools basically take your money, give it to professors to do high end research, and this leaves you to be taught by graduate students.

It's effective in some ways, and it works i suppose, but really... after being at a large, competitive school and then going to a small school where LEARNING YOUR SHIT is a premium rather than finding Element 118... I've found that its much better preparation for the real world job climate than is the large research schools.

If you can get into your UC Berkeley, UCLA, Washington, Michigan, Ivy League, and other high end schools, then I don't doubt why you wouldn't go there... but do your research and find whats best for you. They weren't the best for me.

I'm finishing up my stuff at a small school in Oregon, 20 mins from a ski area, and within 5 hours of about 25 others (Including both HOOD AND TAHOE). I have my professors' phone numbers and addresses and I have even had lunch with a few of them just to discuss random shit (and to get on their good side ha)

This situation works out really well for me and I feel like the environment has allowed me to self-motivate better than always feeling like I can't be top dog, and I'm therefore dirt like I was at a big school.

Above all, it's fucking affordable, and has a 72% job-after-college rate for graduates with a Bachelors. (or at least I remember reading that somewhere)

Look around California. So Cal schools are near Mountain High and Bear and you can find people who are down to trip up to Mammoth every once in awhile. UC Davis is pretty close to Tahoe.

Considering the state of California school budgeting.. I'd say take a pass on anything CSU or UC in the state. Tuition hikes are going mental, and classes are darn near impossible to get.

Well, being in-state I guess I forget. OP it's a little ways from skiing but check out Cal Poly SLO. It's currently my top school I'm applying to. Also, another favorite of mine is UW and it's pretty damn close to skiing too.

Well they have a ski club that goes on routine trips (which end up being a few days of partying) so you could do that. It's really a solid school and it's not like the rest of the state schools. I'm too tired to say anything else. There's a member on here that goes to cal poly and says he loves it. My cousin goes and loves it and I have loved what I've seen when I visited.

Oh, i'm not fully knocking it. It's a great school (even though them and Pomona are sorta assholes in the way they screw the other CSU's - fundingwise based on their POLY-ness) and some of my best friends went to CPSLO.

If that's what youre into, it's a great school. Tough as shit to get into (oddly enough, its one of the top 25 hardest public universities in the country to gain acceptance to - due to demand alone)

Montana State is ill for riding

University of Montana I think is a more fun community. The freestyle scene is lagging, but things are being done to change that.

Caroll College in Helena is right near Great Divide, but Helena isn't so interesting.

That's what I'll tell you about Montana. You really you should want to go to university for academic reasons, so pick a school that will give you a good education, but I see nothing wrong about going skiing lots too.

...But trust me when I say, Eastern is pretty fucking awesome as well for nearby skiing.

oh... and then you have all the ski resorts in the Kootenays north of the border...

Fernie, Red Mountain, and Whitewater are all relatively close... (especially Red Mtn) and, then if you want to make a trip to the sickest skiing in the universe, Kicking Horse, and Revelstoke are within distance... same with all the Alberta resorts...

If you really want to get crazy, get a trip up to Retallack... I heard the skiing there is okay.
