Is the new GoPro worth it?

I know there are a bunch of threads about the new GoPro but i want to hear your opinions

I'm buying a GoPro but i dont know if i should spend the extra on the new one.

The 5 mp were good enough but 11 is so hard to not buy into

I have a 40% off code so I'm definitley buying one of them.

Me and my friends bought a new one and it works pretty well so far but i wouldnt recommend it if you already have an old gopro.

honestly, i didnt see much of any difference in video. if you want ease of use, go with the new one. if you want bang for your buck, go with the old one. i got mine back in January and probably wont buy this one for another couple years, or until they make some super amazing breakthrough.

The new Hero2 is exactly the same price as the original Hero, but the original Hero is now around 240. So, it's based on your own preference. Personally, I wish I had waited to buy mine and would have if I had known there was going to be a new one. I bought mine in late Sept.

I saw in another thread from the kid that makes those USC edits that it is supposed to be much better for photos, based on the rate which it captures. I too really wanna know if it will be worth it for me, since all of the technical camera lingo doesn't mean a ton to me. Anyone knowledgable have a quick breakdown of the major differences, in layman's terms?

i just bought the original through a neighbour with the discount code about a week ago and i'm not sure whether gopro would let me return the orig. and get the new one. What do you think?

So funny cause today I was going to jus run out to bestbuy to get a new one. My bud was like "make sure ya get the 2". I had no idea they even put a new one out. Life saving text he sent me. I woulda been soooo pissed had I got the old one at the same price. But yo once I get it operable I'll report back and let ya know how much better it is.

Well fuck....

I bought a HeroHD about 6 weeks ago for $320. Now they bring out a new one, drop the price on the other one!! Love it when this shit happens. Don't regret getting one but would of liked to have the newer version for the same price i paid. Little bit peeved.

Still....A sick camera and actually helps make fun happen.

It pisses me off that the gopro wifi remote is only partly compatible with the Hero 1. All it will do is serve as a remote for camera which is neat I guess but the Hero 1 wont be compatible with the app for streaming that sucks btw I'm sticking to my HD Hero not upgrading until that one is completely outdated and when it is outdated something way better then the Hero 2 will hopefully be out.

The low light function is cool, but I'll wait to upgrade to the new one until they incorporate a screen onto it that isn't $75.

Sure man! The major differences from the GoPro HD Hero 2 and the previous model are:
The GoPro HD Hero 2 has
1) New LCD menu system - Easier to navigate the menus
2) 2x Sharper Glass Lens - What this means is that, for the most part, your images will be cleaner and crisper
3) 2x Faster Image Processor - Notice with your GoPro when a video is taken it usually takes a second or two to actually register that it was taken. A faster image processor will cut down on this time.
4) 11 mega pixel sensor - Pictures are now taken at 11 mega pixels which means there are more pixels in your image. Essentially what this does is it "usually" allows for better image quality as well as allowing the user to blow up the size of their picture. Disclaimer - more megapixels doesn't necessarily mean better image quality, but in this case I believe it does.
5) Mini HDMI port - allows you connect your GoPro to a HD T.V.
6) LED lights on all sides - have you ever looked through footage and found a ton of videos and photos where your just staring at the camera seeing if its recording? This feature eliminates this problem because now the red light is located on every side of the camera making it viewable from all angles.
7) Wifi backpack + Wifi Remote - Allows to wirelessly control whether your GoPro is recording or not with a handy little remote
8) 3.5 mm stereo external mic input - This basically allows you to connect a separate device to capture crisper audio
9) Integrated Battery Warmer - Allows the battery to last longer in colder temperatures. Especially useful when skiing!
10) More photo and video modes - Photo = you can now take 10 photos in the span of a second and in time lapse mode you can have it take photos every 0.5 of a second. Video = WVGA resolution at 120 frames per second. WVGA just refers to standard resolution.

I know a lot of you want to see a side by side comparison of the new model and the old model and so do I. But in the mean time, look at the following videos. Im sure all of you have seen the first video, but watch it one more time in 720p. Pay close attention to the quality and sharpness of the image.



Now watch this in 720p. (GoPro's last posted video with the original HD Hero)


In my opinion the original HD hero doesn't look as crisp as the GoPro 2. Whether this increase in quality and features justifies a upgrade, that is completely up to you!

Personally I don't use my GoPro that much because I have a Canon 60D, but for me, all of the new features as well as enhanced image quality make it seem like a worthy upgrade and would most likely prompt me to use it more!
