An idea..

Alright so I thought of this the other day, and probably people have thought of this idea already. So skis only can be remounted about 2-4 times depending on the skis and shit. Well..

Why dont ski companys put those little metal inserts in liek snowboards, so bindings can just screw in, like depending on the ski have them placed differently like for a powder have them back and park like center and like 2.5 back. Then etc. Then its easier to screw in bindings and reselling skis would be easier.
But I guess the down sides are messing up the integrity of the skis liek the conscruction.

Pros-
Easier mounting
Easier to re sell

Cons-
Mess up integrity of skis
Added weight

So yea, any thought? THis could be really really stupid but I thought this was kinda a good idea.

Its probably one of those idea's that sounds good on paper but when you actually do it, it messes up the skis.

Also, i'm thinking if they could do it, wouldn't it be done already?

because then all ski companies would have to make their bindings according to the metal piece

If there was a way to do it without detracting from the ski's performance, it would be such a great idea. It would make things a lot easier if bindings/ skis came standardized so you could switch them around without having to go to the shop. I like your thinking.

I know k2 has but its only for a cetain amount of bidnigns unless more or less there all the same, like layout wise.

Pretty soon theres gonna be a binding mount pattern standard, just like din, thanks to this guy. Inb4 this guys sucess. Also its legit on snowboards because there much wider, so its easier.

It never caught on because the compatible Line and K2 bindings were really heavy and had a lot of issues.

I think the only problem with this idea is the difference in foot size like all bindings would require some sort of demo track, unless that whole concept is changed

you would still need to drill somthing into the ski and if u put a big metal plate you would be raised up like racer steeze which wouldnt be sweet for afterbangin

The problem with this is ski bindings have different hole locations. It also depends on how big of a boot you are mounting the binding for.

This works with snowboards because all bindings have the ability to use the simple four hole design disc in the middle, any size binding can be put on any board in a multitude of locations.

Ski bindings need to be mounted according to their specific hole location and the size of the boot they are being mounted to fit, this is why most people need to go to a ski shop to get their bindings mounted, and can't do it at home, like most snowboarders can.

you obviously dont understand the op. have you ever seen a snowboard without bindings?
there are threaded metal inserts in it, you dont have to drill anything, and you dont need a metal plate on top, the idea is, if all the binding companies got together and put their screw holes in the same place, you could mount any binding in the threaded holes. you can unscrew and screw in screws into the inserts all you want on a snowboard, why not do it for skis?

like people have said, k2 has tried it, good idea but you need to have all the companies on board, or at least enough that it will ruin the buisness of whatever stubborn companies refuse so that you can choose between any binding for any ski. and whoever said you couldnt work it with the current system, you can already adjust the heel peice of non demo bindings with the fp screw. as long as the inserts were in a rectangular shape, you could compensate for the mounting position by moving the bindings forwards or back a set of holes. it works.
