La Nina?

Has anyone else heard we are going to La Nina winter this year? Heard it on the radio and internet. Anyone experience one of these epic seasons before?

Not quite right...

The El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) works in approximately 5-7 year cycles, repeating. Each cycle last on average 1-3 years. Last year was the first year of the La Nina cycle - shown by the low pressure system in the western pacific resulting in a warm, dry Southern United States, a lowered (southwardly moving) jet stream and a cold, wet Pacific Northwest.

This year the outlook is similar, but the intensity of La Nina is expected to fall - the southern United States expects warm dry conditions and the easterly pacific trade winds are expected to increase, causing cool waters in the eastern pacific resulting in more cold, wetter winters for the Pacific Northwest. This can be seen by the super-wet summer that Whistler had - La Nina isn't just a winter phenomenon....

I refuse to think it is going to be weaker then last year. Although it was pretty awesome snow last year, positive thinking. We will get dumped on I'm hoping.

On a side note it could not have been much worse on the east coast, accumulated 3 times at my house in NH..

Yeah, la nina kinda sucks although my home mountain snowmass had a great year, I hardly got any snow at my house, which was a bummer considering I built like ten features to set up outside of my house last summer. hope this winter isn't another dissapointment.

They talk about La Nina in this episode if you haven't seen it. The info for the video says "According to all climate predictions, she's back for the 2011/12 season. We hope you like your powder deep!"
