I am pretty much the most unreligious person out there. I have never once in my life thought it was "normal" to believe in a character that has zero proof and beyond that tells me how i should live my life.

With that in mind, how the fuck can a young girl growl and make sounds like this, lol... creepy shit.

I dont know exactly what to believe in a situation like this, where its not some fat black poverty stricken woman claiming to be controlled by a demon and then sudden when a priest touches her forehead she is "cured". This girl died a violent death and while she did have history of mental disorder to me her diagnosis could never explain some of the documentation of her actions.

Im not saying I believe in this girl or not but more of a ...... Holy fuck, that shit is creepy.

you can only say 'no such thing' is if you can prove it.

same goes if something exists that can't be proven. comes down to faith and belief. not empirical evidence.

yes, you take the evidence given about the existence of something and create your own assumption. its up to you what that is. to accept or deny is ultimately up to you. however realize that you will never be 100% because you can't definitively prove the existence or non existence of something. you can only be correct to 99.9999999999999% in your judgments.

anyways this is getting to philosophical and bordering on epistemology. i was just pointing out a fallacy of logic. thats all.

Ghosts and possessions intrigue me, like a lot of other people. but seriously... you guys need to get your heads out of your ass if you honestly think that people are being possessed by some third party being..

I agree with the first post in this thread. we havn't even touched the medical world and it is much more likely that something mentally related is what triggers a "possession" not a scary troll with horns and a tail that can't be seen.

really? cause as a 19 year old I agree with 99% of what he said. just because he is being blatantly open about his view on religion doesn't mean it's wrong. For a 14 year old I think he knows what he is talking about.

prove that its a mental disorder, what mental disorder is it? What makes some people be able to suddenly be able to speak different languages? (not so much this video, but other examples ive seen, last year we watched a couple exorcism videos for psychology and there were some almost impossible things going on)

not saying it isnt a mental disorder, it just cant be proven, just like science cant prove religion wrong. and the other way around, nobody can prove that its the devil possessing this girl, and religion cant prove science wrong. its not really that debatable from either side.

And I completely agree with you. Its not debatable because there aren't really and facts to support either side, that's what I was trying to get at in my above post. But lets think rationally. The devil...really? Modern Science IS prove religion a fallacy a little bit every day. The more we learn about how the universe was actually created, the less people believe in a giant man in the sky that created all life. Not saying its not a possibility, but if it is, its very slim.

there are well over 100 known disorders that could manifest in "possession-like" symptoms. I'll look a couple up for you if you'd like me to. I'll go ahead and throw schizophrenia out there. I can't tell which mental disorder the person in the op suffered from; neither could a trained psychologist. It's a low quality sound clip from years ago. As I said before, there are loads of disorders that uneducated, superstitious people would call possession. Epilepsy was once thought to be caused by possession. If you'd like to define possession and its symptoms, i'd be happy to examine it from first principles and tell you my thoughts on what it actually is. I don't mean that in a condescending way either, I'll actually do it. Same with the "almost impossible" things. You're right, science can't prove that there are not devils taking up residence in peoples' brains. You see, science is a methodology in which knowledge is built by comparing ideas or predictions to objective reality. So, if someone says that possession is caused by a devil or demons, they are making a positive truth claim about reality. Because they are placing the devil or demons in the realm of reality, we are able to compare the prediction of possession being devil-related to what is actually observed. Now, we have a lot of technology and knowledge to analyse the brain, what have we found? Well, there is no evidence whatsoever of demons or devils in there. Does this disprove the prediction? no. does it support the prediction? not at all. What this does is put it in the same category as predicting that the loch ness monster causes parkinsons. Now if you'd like me to disprove it, we can do it through logic.

modern science isnt proving religion wrong at all. modern science is the process of gaining knowledge through testing ideas and predictions against reality. science simply describes reality, it doesnt prove anything wrong. If someone makes a positive truth claim about reality (i.e. lions are blue, rocks fall up, and goblins exist), it's up to them to put forward the reasoning and evidence behind those claims. If they won't or can't, then nobody needs to bother trying to prove it wrong. It's like if you go to McDonalds, order a big mac, and hand them monopoly money, they're just going to tell you to leave. Theyre not going to call in the FBI and run it through a counterfeit detector, that would be silly. People who make truth claims about reality without reason and evidence are the belligerent customer yelling that McDonalds didnt PROVE that their money was fake as theyre being thrown out.

yet religion can still say this is a case of possession. because religion is mostly based on faith, really all you have to do is say you believe in god, the devil and the bible, and that can be enough "proof"
if you cant say what specific mental disorder it is, you cant argue with religion, even if you could, a religious person could still say the disorder is caused by the devil possessing that persons body, because science still cant prove that its 100% untrue.

Im not religious, so i really dont know what im talking about, im just saying that when you try to disprove religion with science or the other way around it doesnt work, religion vs science fights will always be pointless. you might say that religion is ridiculous to say that some magical wizard in the sky created everything. and they think you are just as crazy saying that a tiny ball of mass that somehow came from nothing exploded and created the universe.

Well I think you are a little wrong is your assumption that science isn't proving religion to be fake.Here is a simple example:

We know the earth was created by dust particles and expanding gases from the big bang. Over time they clustered and formed planets i.e. the earth, mars, mercury, ect. Well that alone disproves that "god" created earth and mankind. So in a way science is proving the theories of religion are false and hold no weight.

the big bang is a theory, its not 100% fact, and it never will be, we will never know for sure how the universe was formed, even the formation of planets is not 100% known. these theories obviously make alot of sense, but so does god creating everything in 7 days to a religious person. and really, whos to say that the big bang wasnt god forming the universe? obviously im not saying that, just showing how pointless the religion vs science argument is.

This, pretty much. Plus it's not that hard to make crazy weird creepy sounds-go listen to some more extreme metal genres, those vocalists (some of whom are women) create all types of crazy sounding screams, growls, squeals, barks, etc.

This is one of the cases where an overly religious family had a child with a serious mental disorder. Of course they said "god would never make our child this way!" it has to be the devil controlling her! Then they get a priest to come in and try to "beat the devil out of her". That actually happens.

That's my theory on this specific "exorcism" case.

And what you clearly seem to be missing is the fact that there is more EVIDENCE to support this theory then the theory that "god" created the earth and all the planets. You cant call someone stupid for saying the earth was created my interstellar dust, asteroids, and gases. Christians almost always get angry when somebody is trying to discuss with them or trying to prove/say that christianity is "wrong"... You cant (Not saying all, but MANY) discuss with a christian without he/she raging, and he/she then starts saying irrelevant stuff when they see that the discussion is now going their way... :)
