There is a fat rumor lingering around that the X-Games will be condensed largely this year in regards to the skiing events. I live in Aspen so this kinda aggrivates me even more...
The rumor is that for this years upcoming games only 10 athletes will be allowed in to compete. Instead of having 20 then condensing it after pre lims. There are already 4 qualified from last year, 1 from the US Open, 2 judges picks, and 2 from late season X-Quals. That is 9 which would leave only 1 more spot open if this rumor is true.
I believe that this would take a huge amount of mysteriousness and fun out of the sport because the X-games are where new kids can explode into the scene and show the world what they got. It also makes it more fun for a lot of skiers because the X-games is something tangible where if you work for a bunch of years can try and qualify if you got the skills. So if this is true I believe it will be very detrimental to the sport.
