King of Style Video Qualifier + Invited Athletes

I just wanted to remind everyone out there about the North American Video Qualifier we're currently running for the 2011 King of Style, where anyone from Canada or the US can enter for their chance to win a spot in the event (which takes place on November 19th in Stockholm, Sweden) by uploading a one-minute video of your best big air tricks.

Once all the entries are in, we'll open it up for voting from Thursday, October 27th until Monday, October 31st, where you (the kick ass Newschoolers community!) will get to decide which North American skier deserves to compete in the 2011 King of Style against the list of invited athletes, which so far includes...

What they really should do is invite all the stylish skiers like:

Walker, Brogan, Wallisch, Lj, Casabon, Harlaut, Clayton Vila, Shea Flynn, Both Martinis, Hornbeck, Torvinen etc...

Not all kinds of aerial people.... It's called KING OF STYLE right?

THERE IS ONLY UNSTYLISH AERIAL FUCKING PEOPLE THERE (EXCEPT GUS)....

Who tha fuck made this list? This skiers listed are very talented no hate on that but THEY ARE NOT KING OF STYLE MATERIAL! Not one skier on that list has earned his place in the KOS competition. FUCK!

jon olson is the only guy who deserve a place there, he created a lot of tecnical tricks and know who to make a trick smooth and steezy.

Am I the only one who isn't unhappy with this current list? Most if not all of these guys throw super tech tricks smoothly and with style. And to everyone hating on Jon being there, seriously? He was one of the innovators and gave so much to the sport making incredibly technical tricks styley

they throw tech tricks( dub 10,12,14 and even 16) but there is no style at all, all they do is tuck and spin till you win

Eric Pollar, Pep Fujas and Andy Mahre should be invited, too... whether or not they would take the invite, I don't know, but they exude a style significantly different than that of your average park skier.

Its a big air contest, not a style contest. i know the name is missleading, but people like you clearly don't get that. even though half this page is raging their ass off about it every year.

Apparently they are out of a sponsor this year, and you can tell that they don't really know what they're doing. They're putting it on us in Sweden to send 5 riders, wich is too many imo. Would rather have had 3 from Sweden and two from US/Can.

And then they're charging us (120kr, $18) to get into the area. This may not sound like much, but this event has always been free, and that's why it's been so popular among the people of Stockholm.

So no. Bad event this year. I'm still going though, booked my flight in August.

seem to be missing the point here, rail game has nothing to do with a BIG AIR comp, that being said i would have liked to see them get invited to vary it up abit, but whatever, i am getting abit bored with everybody on NS licking their balls, they're good and they deserve respect but maybe not to the extent they have received it....

Why the does this happen every year? The list of invited riders is released people bitch and complain about how the event is the king of "style" and there are no stylish riders in that list. King of Style is just the name of the event, that is all. What it comes down to is that this event is just another city big air on a small city jump and the riders are going to do the most technical tricks they can to win.

As for the argument that none of these riders have any style i disagree. Interpretation of what is stylish and what is not is completely up to the individual therefore it can be hard to judge. Sure Henrick and Phil are two skiers that many people consider stylish, myself included. I also respect the fact that riders like Jossi Wells, PK Hunder, Jacob Wester, and Gus Kenworthy are able to do technical tricks while making them look easy and stylish.

The fact is that this event has never been about more about style than it has been about technicality. for the last several years the winner is chosen because he throws a well executed technical trick and he makes it look easy (or in the case of last year a sketchy back flip if your opponent falls).

But that's the whole thing, its totally subjective. You cant have a competition based on style alone because to many people have completely different views on what is "stylish".

As for Gus, i think he has a great style, all the stuff in this video is sick minus the dub 16 at the beginning.
