Before I lose anymore karma, this was my review from another post:

Music aside (and its hard to put it aside since its such a big part of a movie) After Dark was sick.

I saw it at IF3 and just downloaded it off iTunes and rewatched. I thought the first time I saw it I may have jumped to a conclusion about the soundtrack because of the beverages I had drank that night, but watching it stone sober, they were pretty accurate. Did not get me stoked. And it was pretty quiet in the theater the whole movie.

The skiing was so sick the second time I watched it. So much style, amazing cinematography and very creative urban. Good mix between urban, backcountry and the infamous level 1 park shoots. The Sun Valley jump might somehow be even bigger this year than it was last.

Parker White and Ahmet had rediculous sections. Would have liked to have seen more of Wallisch but I guess he got injured. The stuff he was in was pretty tight. Houle and Gagnier had a banger segment, pretty much all urban. They've still got it. I liked Rainville's section, especially the gopro pillow line.

Anyways, despite the music (IMO), I would still encourage people to buy the movie and support level 1.

after listening to that song 5x... I am going to buy After Dark, just to see P.White ski to that shit.

the only way to ruin a ski segment is to put that gay-ass Caged Bird song over it.

It's when people make blind comments regarding good music like this that makes me lose faith in humanity. I'm guessing that you have never enjoyed a ski movie made before 2006 or 7 because of music choice and that you absolutely hate Nimbus' song choice.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you'd have preferred that seggy with some shitty dubstep or shittier rap... it saddens me that (probably) most of America thinks like this, and that people can be so ignorant to past cultural movements that are a hell of a lot better than Redman and Method Man's incessant shouting about how gangsta they are. You want to know how to ruin a segment, watch Blackout— while I agree that song choice was flawless for Blackout, all of those songs would SUCK for anything other than a jokingly gangsta edit.

although Parker White's segment song was sick, the rest of the soundtrack was pretty lame imo.  Literally  probably 1/3 to 1/2 of the reason I watch ski movies is for the sick music and I think half the reason I didn't like after dark as much as eye trip, refresh or turbo was because the music was pretty weak this year, it didnt really allow the viewer to get really into the segments.

Likewise. A little verity is good in music. People get to expect a certain type of music for ski films now a days. Yea i agree not every type of music belongs in every edit, but verity is the key man.

Your comment proves to me to have no idea what old ski movies were like. Ever hear of Balance, propaganda or Strike 3? Those movies were awesome. The music made you stoke to ski. There wasnt any of this country shit in there.

Art of Flight had an awesome soundtrack, and it really made me want to get out riding. Anyone else disagreeing with me on this soundtrack cannot be a true level 1 fan since level 1 was built off of good hip hop with the occasional alternative/metal song thrown in.

what did you guys think of ahmets song ? personally that was the only fuck up in my opinion. didnt match the riding and had a bad vibe, also a really bad song too end on.


also, there were actually great songs used throughtout the movie with the exception of ahmets. pwhite, rainville, logan seggys all had awsome songs.

the portland premier had some wierd speakers, consequently making the song sound super bad. hearing the song now though its probably my favorite of the movie

So somebody isn't a true fan because they appreciate Level 1's attempt at adding a fresh vibe to this years movie that isn't frequent enough in ski movies? That makes no sense. You seem like the person who isn't a true Level 1 fan for not respecting and understanding their approach for ending the the steadily increasing staleness of music in ski movies... Sure I absolutely love the hip hop vibe in older movies, but Berman and Decker have a much broader taste in music, and recognized that most people would appreciate the use of that musical taste. And also, aside from just making a step in the direction of variety. The music they used fit their theme better then standard Level 1 fare. I'd say that soundtrack felt more dreamlike then average hip-hop/etc.

when you get older and sick of hip hop or more up beat music to go with almost every ski segment...you start to appreciate it when someone puts music like this...don't rant, just saying cuz it happens to me at times

what ruins a good shot for me is, if the skier is loosing his gear when stomping a trick. its pathetic to see the beanie fly off when landing, or some icons dangling around for half a run. nothin g about that.

this doesn't even begin to compare to the "friends" song. i actually enjoyed parker white's song and thought it fit his seggy.

but every movie from this season that i've seen so far has had at least one god awful song. i can't tell if they're trying to show how abstract they are or just put it in for lolz

i have to agree but damn did he have some banger shit in russia. So it correspondence in not having a long seggy also a lot of his skiing was split around the whole movie.

i dug the soundtrack to every movie this year, it's so sick to see some quality tunes getting played rather than all rap. that being said, i did not dig stack's song in pbp's. yikes, that ruined some clean switch pow landings.

more contests, less time for filming trips
more injuries, less filming (and skiing in general)
still taking college courses on the side

kinda difficult to mix all of that with filming for 4bi9, level 1, field productions, tgr/the north face this year, and wallisch wednesdays (i think that is mostly from 4bi9 though).

After Dark was BY FAR, the best movie I have ever seen from Level 1. Amazing cinematography, amazing theme, amazing soundtrack. Hell, my dad even loved it, he thought it was amazing. I have to hide it from him so he doesn't take it to work and watch it there. Everyone's riding was amazing, and everything themed together excellently.

Bottom line, you bought the movie, and you didn't like it. Go suck Josh Berman's erect black penis if you want a refund.

Man a friend and i couldnt get through sage's segment in 'one for the road" because the song choice was really bad, than i read somewhere he's a fan of bay area rap and now it sorta makes sense but i say stick to the random rab steez sarge!

I personally feel that the whole Cali P thing in ski movies is a bit of a joke. And thugged out hip hop just makes it a bit farsical. But that said there are times when it fits.

yah i enjoy themed movies... thats why i liked refresh so much. It had a really good flow... kind of like one for the road. I felt as though after dark was one long edit
