From what I have read and heard (obviously not always right) Paul is in my opinion an isolationist. Meaning we need to pull all our military home (no bases overseas) and not express our opinion over the decisions of other countries.
While in theory this all sounds good but frankly some bases overseas are good because if we do have to go to war somewhere then we need to be able to stage from somewhere (i.e. Germany is our current layover on the way to the middle east). Also if we know a country is likely to give terrorist support then shouldnt we sanction them or something to discourage this? To me I see this as simple defense we cant just sit here in the US and not care about the rest of the world. The terrorist will come here even if we do that and we wont even know they are coming.
I do agree that we could use less troops overseas but I just can't see eliminating every overseas base that we have....
I also think that we need to support our allies or they wont support us when we need it and I am affraid that with the isolationist mentality that we wont always support them when we should.
Then again seeing as Congress wont let him have everything he wants he may be the best choice.
