I thought the glidecam shots were great as well.

That was awesome! The only shot that I did not really like was the one on the cannon where you dropped off at the end. Other than that though that was a great showreel.

Everything was amazing, except for that second shot were the camera was not panning then started panning with the skier, would have been better IMO if you had followed the skier all of the way in and kept the cameras movement fluid throughout the shot.

I'd rather see perfectly composed glidecam shots that aren't 100% smooth than vice versa.

I thought all of those shots were tits except the one mentioned above where you panned down after the trick.

Perfect use of slow motion IMO. You only used it at moments where it added to the effect of the shot/trick, not just so the shot took up more time or because it looks epic and dramatic.

Great stuff, especially towards the end. I think what they mean by the glidecam shots being iffy is that the skier sometimes get out of frame.

Yeah, understandable. I liked that trick where i panned down on the end because of the hitchcock zoom and because it pans down at the end, but thats where personal preference comes into play.


And thanks, I love using full speed motion and just tossing in a little slow motion.

Really liked it, though these videos always make me wish I had pro or close to pro skiers to film, it just helps the whole video. It's hard to have quality filming and editing with boring content.

I thought this as well. I would love to see a reel of your non-skiing content, or one with your best shots all around. I feel that is where you really have been excelling recently in diversifying your subject matter.

Yeah, I really haven't done a lot of none-skiing shooting. I guessing titling this my "action" reel would be more appropriate. I hope to make a real showreel when I really have the content for it but right now 99% of my shit is skiing.

HOLY YES! its annoying, but every filmer had to start out like that, i'm guessing ahah.

The one thing i didn't like the shot at :50. I know you cant really control the riders outerwear, but i feel like the rider blended into the background while he was in the air. If you messed around with colors and made him stand out more it would be nicer. Im colorblind by the way, so maybe it's just me haah

Ah yes, true if he was wearing bright colors he would have stuck out, but the trend is earth/mono tones and i tried to line up that shot as best as i could and needless to say alot of them didnt work very well but on a full brightness screen you can see the rider in that shot. But, i didnt put that shot in for the skier or the trick i put it in for the technical aspect of the shot.

there are 21 shots (roughly) and 13 of those were tripod shots and 7 were glidecam shots, i felt like i could have used maybe one more good glidecam shot.

Dope! I liked everything except all the zoom in shots starting around 55sec, the ones you cut together were nice but the shots where u kept the whole zoom shot in on that jump were boring, i dunno if it was the smoothness of the zoom or the composition but it was off

Nice reel man!
As usual, your grading is really good. Nothing to say about that.

Some points of criticism though (you should probably take this with a grain of salt as I don't shoot video):
- The hitchcock/panning shot didn't really fit the vibe, it was a whole different shot. I know above you mentioned it's personal preference, and it is of course, but it really broke up the vibe for me
- The shot at 0:38 (approx.) was really, really shaky, while all your other glidecam shots aren't. Maybe shoulda left that one out?
Personally I'm not a big fan of followcams, except for the usual really well filmed ones where the shooter is like 10 feet behind the skier, those can be really cool.

Nice edit! How much of this is filmed on the FS100 (I'm guessing none as you just got it?)

i think the color was spot on, the glidecam shot at mammoth (around :38-39 ish) was pretty shaky, really trippy after everything else was so smooth, i personally would have left that one out

other than that i really enjoyed it i really liked the shots on the last jump

Yeah, that shot was super loose but to be honest, filming that jump was loose in general. I like the shot alot because of the perspective and such which is why i chose it, it looks way better in the "why bother?" credits cause its 40% but oh well. i wish i could change about 4 things now haha

I guess what he's trying to say is that many follow/glidecam shots often have very similar compositions, making them not seem very varied.

yes, and maybe it would be better if you didnt use the 7-8 followcamshots right next to each other. Dont get me wrong, I liked it. Especially the last jumpshots.

It would also be nice with some nature/ artsy shots, or maybe some timelapses. Just to show your filmaking skills and maybe mix it up a little more. Maybe add some of the Luke Perin shots?

The shot at 30 and the last shot were fuckin ridiculous. If you used the motion in the shot at 30 with a more impressive trick it would be baller.

yeah man, i love the hitckcock zooms.. unfortunately with my new camera i probably wont be doing them very often/at all. a hitchcock zoom takes a steady arm, perfect moving speed matched with perfect zoom speed, its tough.

your color was nice.

but here's some things that bugged me.

one of the shots, you couldnt even see the skier cuz of the background.

the head was cut off of the first shot.

that weird shot on the rail, he was in the upper third the whole time and then it panned down. to me all i saw was the lip and the rail.

the shakiness of the follow cam shots was annoying.
with the skier going from one side of the frame to the other.

too many straight on lip shots. should've left it at one. with maybe a faster zoom starting from farther out..

really, the only shots that impressed me were: the one at 19 seconds- real smooth. and the sunset shot.

but thats just my opinion, and you prolly think i dont know shit.
