I don't really know anything about this Jesus statue, but from reading the article it seems more like an iconic symbol of the mountain than a religious symbol. To me when it comes to things like that it's not seen as a religious item, but rather just part of the landscape that's been there for decades. The article said it's been there for 60 years. Who cares? Seriously. If a statue of Muhammed had been there for 60 years I'd be saying the same thing. I'm sure the vast majority of people who ski there pay no attention to it, it's just the annoying anti-Christians of the world who have a vendetta against everything representative of that culture (and I say that completely accepting that there are other religions/cultures/belief sets that have the same ridiculous vendettas against other religions/cultures/belief sets).
And for the record I don't really know what to classify what I believe, so I'm not really biased in this answer.
