Slow down with the Ads Please!

i understand you generate money from having advertisements on your page but can you please slow down with the consistent ad before every single video. its frustrating watching an ad before a 30 sec video then seeing the same add right before the next video you watch. its producing a negative image for newschoolers...no one wants to watch the same ad multiple times in a row. maybe a few times a session wouldnt be as frustrating. im not attacking you guys either, just throwing it out there.

and do u know the more ads the more money so in the future mods might be able to get paid
because they arnt getting paid now

What I'm always confused about is why people never call out other media types for ads.

I mean print is 50% ads most of the time... give or take a bit.

If that were true on newschoolers, then every other page you loaded would be a complete page of an ad. For every 30 seconds of video you watched, you'd have to watch a 30 second ad.

5 minutes of video, 5 minutes of ad and so on.

It is true though, we need ads to stay alive. We're working on a better balance of ads as well. We'll cut down on the number of ads on the shorter videos immediately... you're right, that is too much.

On the positive side, at least this means that the users are still noticing your site's ads. I think one of the reasons why "people never call out other media types for ads" is because they have gotten used to them and found ways to completely ignore them. I have gotten pretty accustomed to ignoring billboards when I walk downtown. IMO if people are complaining but your numbers aren't going down, then maybe you are on your way to doing the right thing?

Theoretically you are completely correct. However, there is a definite balance of user experience which we need to work out. I think every advertising medium has to find its sweet spot.

The real interesting thing about ads is they work. Even though you think you're ignoring those billboards, if one was targeted at you it would probably get in your head somehow.

Studying advertising is absolutely fascinating.

at least give us back the mute button, 99% of the ads on NS i have no interest in the shitty products they are trying to sell me, so I don't want to have to listen to them.

OR people can just embed vimeo videos, seeing as it's higher quality, loads faster, and is ad free. Then you don't have to worry about ads on that video for anyone!

I understand advertising and completely support it. I just think having to watch the same ad every video is too much. Maybe every other video? or every 2 videos? and the print ads are definitely noticed! no complaints there!

Anyways, just like we don't like auto embedding in threads because of the simple fact that people "secretly" check NS on their work/school, i think we should be able to mute the ads and continue to efficiently procrastinate the important things in life and spend more time on NS ...

or do the sponsors specifically pay more $$ to have unmuteable (sp?) ads ?

i dont mind the ads at all! learn to deal with it guys! it helps out NS a lot!

infact for almost every vid i watch i will click on the ad, which gives more money to NS by a pay per click system! please tell me you guys go by PPC???

Honestly, I don't have a problem seeing an ad every time I watch a video, the problem for me is the fact that their is like 4 different ads that pop up and hearing about Line Afterbangs and Vitamin Water is dandy, but having more variety would make watching vids on newschoolers a lot better.

I think everyone should just click on all the ads they can for like 1 day. Then NS will make a shit load of monies and their for all our problems will be solved

When advertisers buy ad's they buy them in blocks, and the system automatically calculates how often they need to show based on estimated traffic. So in very basic terms, the more you watch videos, the less often we'll have to show ads infront of them.

As far as clicking, the more traffic a company gets from their ads helps us encourage them to keep working with us, but they can tell if its being faked as well. Click stuff you like, and click things you want to know more about, but simply clicking everything on our behalf isn't super productive.

We try and help companies make ads the Newschoolers community will be interested in seeing, and we are happy to listen to your comments, but like always if you are flat out bitching and demanding we take them down, you will likely not get a response.

because you dont have to read the print ad, it doesnt waste your time like video ads.
