AFP's Best Job Ever Contest - only two weeks left!

Hey Newschoolers!

In case you missed it or have forgotten, I wanted to remind everyone about the super kick ass contest that the Association of Freeskiing Professionals (AFP) is hosting, the AFP Best Job Ever Contest!

Click here for all the details: http://afpworldtour.com/bestjobever/ but to sum it up, AFP is looking for a content manager for the upcoming winter to provide coverage on events along with updating the AFP standings, and if you win you'll be given a $10,000 expense account to travel to the 7 Platinum-level AFP events (which includes X Games, Euro X Games, the three Dew Tour stops, Grand Prix Copper and the AFP World Championships at the World Skiing Invitational during the Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival in Whistler), which speaking from experience, is a super good time!

I personally would have jumped at the chance to enter this contest when I was younger, as it really is an amazing opportunity and a dream life for anyone who loves skiing, writing and having way too much.

I looked into it. My flights alone would have been 4k if I could always get the cheapest one which obviously isn't realistic.

I still think it's a sick opportunity for someone, I just know its not for me.

I was actually going to make a thread about this.

I'm Will Eginton, and i hope you all check out my entry. If there is anything that you can actually glean anything from my stumbling, bumbling post, i'd really appreciate a vote.

That being said, Grant has a great entry as well; We each have unique attributes: Grant is an amazing skier and has a more personal relationship with the athletes, and i have had some limited experience writing about skiing.

If you guys wouldn't mind just checking both entries out and throwing a vote to whomever you see fit, I'd really appreciate it.

You'd actually be surprised my dear :) Speaking as someone who has a travel budget to work with to attend those events, a lot of the time I get put up with free accommodation through companies, friends or the actual event (not to mention free food and booze), and I have no doubt that whoever ends up becoming the AFP Content Manager will receive the same treatment. So it's really all about being responsible and learning how to manage your budget accordingly so you get the most out of it.

As long as you're not a complete idiot by booking the most expensive flights and hotels you can find (or you don't bother looking into scoring yourself potential free accommodation, or splitting it with someone), $10,000 should be more than enough. Someone else said that they looked into it and the flights would only be around $4,000, which leaves $6,000 for accommodation and other expenses, which is quite a bit. And if you have to spend a bit of your own money to eat and party, big deal...you're getting a free ride to go to the biggest freeski events of the year (which are always a hell of a good time) while seeing the world...and all you have to do in return is write some articles about skiing and update the AFP rankings.

Most people I know would kill for an opportunity like this (because believe me, I constantly have friends and strangers alike rave about how lucky I am), so if you love skiing, writing, traveling and having fun...then you'd have to be absolutely bat shit crazy not to enter this contest.

I'm getting old and opportunities are drying up. Plus, 20 year old kids can't hang with a seasoned vet like myself...

Correction:

Thought about entering, watched the videos and recognized everyone entering. I didn't realize this contest was for people who already have jobs in the industry...just another facebook popularity contest.

Damn Freeskier, Gatorade Free Flow, and "pro" skiers...why not give these guys actual paying jobs so shlubs like myself have a shot at something like this.

Maybe you should have read into it a little more. I do understand where you are coming from, but why not at least try? If you really wanted it you should have made your video and explained why you are a better choice than the others. As stated in the excerpt below only the top 10 people are chosen by public domain. Then the winner is "hand picked" by a panel. There aren't even 10 entries and the deadline is tomorrow I believe. Like I said, I do understand your concern, but at the same time all you can do is go for it. Whats the worst that can happen?

19.All Entries that are timely and properly submitted during the Promotion Period will be voted on by the public domain of facebook users and those that visit the website, to determine a top 10. The winner will then be hand picked by the AFP Executive Committee (�Contest Judges�) from the top 10 entrants picked by the public.

I entered and I don't have many connections in the industry like some of these other people do. I'm definitely hoping that the AFP judges pick someone who deserves a break in the industry and not someone who already has lots of connections.
