Pole size

hi guys. im 5,9 feet high and have line dart poles 44''. I think i should cut them down, but i ski all mountain and park the same. what should i do? ps. i already broke my thumb on that pole..is that some sort of a sign of a too high pole?

I use the same size poles and I'm 6'3. But do whatever feels comfortable for you. I used to rock 46", and actually I wish I still did. 44" is too small for me I've decided. You will break your poles eventually though so I would just use them till one of them snaps.

not particularly a sign of poles too long. probably from holding your pole incorrectly. sounds like a stupid thing, "durr they're poles you just kinda grab 'em" but depending on which way you put your hand through the strap makes a difference as shown in this video ->

this isnt the exact video i was looking for but at least it shows you the right way. the wrong way of putting your hand through the strap means that if you drop the pole, you fall or it drags it still has your thumb in the strap so can strain tendons and break thumbs.

im 5'10" and i use 46" poles, sometimes 48", so theyre prob not too big. but for park you could go shorter im talkin about my all mountain poles

I don't understand how people mess up their thumbs. I've been skiing for about 18 years and I've never done anything to my thumb, not even tweaked it. And I don't even think about how I hold my poles, I just grab em.

Pole size is all personal preference I'm also 5'9" and my poles are 38" because I ski outside of the park so they are a happy medium between long enough for all moutain or occasional powder day and short enough that they aren't obnoxius in the park.

I'm 5'10" and I rock 42" darts. They seem just perfect, but just go with what feels right. If you really feel the need to cut them down, just do it. But remember, LITTLE BY LITTLE. you can always have a pole that's a tad too long that you can cut a bit more. If you cut too much, you're F'ed in the A

Fucking 14 year old park rats giving gear advice. You use poles to pole plant, if they're not the right size then you'll be skiing like a newb outside the park.

I'm 5'2" and use 46" poles. The way you fit a pole is turning it upside down and holding it just below the basket. If you arm/elbow is at a right angle or slightly bent upward, then you have a good fit. A good fitting pole will work for both park and all mtn.

i have a good 44" pair of scotts and im 5'11". i also have a really short pair of cheap crap poles for park. if i brake them, i just get another pair for like 10 bucks
